Role: Project Controller

We are currently seeking a Project Controller to join our newly established project team in Puerto Rico. If you are highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about contributing to impactful projects, this opportunity is for you!

Key Areas of Responsibility:

1.    Budget Management:
•    Develop and maintain detailed project budgets for EPC projects.
•    Monitor and control project expenditures, ensuring alignment with financial plans.
•    Identify and report any budget variances, providing recommendations for corrective actions.

2.    Cost Analysis:
•    Conduct detailed cost analysis and forecasting to support project decision-making.
•    Prepare cost estimates for new projects and changes to existing projects.
•    Analyze cost performance and implement cost-saving measures where possible.
•    Identify trends and its effect on the long-term forecast.

3.    Schedule Coordination:
•    Develop and maintain comprehensive project schedules and forecast using project management software (PIMS).
•    Coordinate with operational team to ensure timely completion of project milestones and accuracy of the documentation.
•    Monitor project timelines and adjust schedules as necessary to accommodate changes.
•    Monitor and record project changes, implement project-specific strategies and develop project forecasts along with the project management team.

4.    Resource Allocation:
•    Manage resource allocation, ensuring optimal use of construction personnel, equipment, and materials.
•    Track resource utilization and identify potential resource constraints.
•    Collaborate with project managers to resolve resource conflicts.

5.    Risk Management:
•    Identify potential risks and develop mitigation strategies to minimize impact on project timelines and budgets.
•    Maintain a risk register and regularly update it with new risks and mitigation actions.
•    Conduct risk assessments and communicate findings to stakeholders.

6.    Reporting on operations:
•    Prepare and present regular financial and progress reports to stakeholders, highlighting key metrics and any variances.
•    Develop dashboards and other reporting tools to provide real-time project status updates.
•    Ensure transparency and accuracy in all reporting activities.
•    Assist project management team to develop and enforce lessons learned within the organization
•    Periodically travels to sites, approximately once per quarter, and report site observations (Health & safety, construction progress, material & equipment inventory)


7.    Compliance:
•    Ensure all projects comply with company policies, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
•    Conduct audits and reviews to ensure adherence to compliance standards.
•    Implement corrective actions for any identified compliance issues.
•    Manage project inventory of material and equipment.
•    Adhere to safety, health, and environmental regulations.

8.    Contract Management/Commercial:
•    Monitor contract performance and compliance, addressing any issues that arise.
•    Understand the commercial aspects of the contracts upstream and downstream in order to assess any potential claims or change orders and other contractual obligations.
•    Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to resolve contractual disputes.
•    Support tendering teams with commercial aspects and liaise with clients.

9.    Collaboration:
•    Work closely with project managers, engineers, supply chain, finance and other stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
•    Facilitate communication and coordination among project team members.
•    Participate in project meetings and provide input on financial and scheduling matters.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.

  • Solid experience in project control, preferably within the Energy construction or EPC sector. Experience in doing business in Puerto Rico and its local requirements.

  • Proficiency in project management software and financial analysis tools. Excellent computer literacy with experience in planning and project control standard tools and software.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data. Risk management skills and knowledge of field and construction work.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to present information clearly and concisely. Must be proficient in English and Spanish.

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of work. Experience in reading and understanding contracts

  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to work cross-functionally in a matrix organization.
