We are hiring! Atkins is looking for a Senior Architect/Construction Administrator located in Alexandria, VA or Calverton, MD to guide and support our architectural teams on the Purple Line and other transit projects. The successful candidate will be a trusted partner and advisor to clients, self-performs and guides architectural staff as necessary.  Significant experience in transit work is strongly preferred.  This position reports to the Director of Architecture.

How will you contribute to the team?

Under general direction, serves as a recognized specialist in Architecture throughout the Company, providing advice on the resolution of major technical problems of marked importance to the organization; provides technical expertise on programs and projects with substantial fees, developing standards for diverse activities.

To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to:

  • Analyze projects, solve major technical construction, and code related problems, and make cost-effective recommendations.

  • Develop architectural standards and guides.

  • Determine program objectives and requirements.

  • Provide consultation and advice.

  • Market company services.

  • Have substantial responsibility for the success of program or project, conformance to budget and quality control.

  • Conduct technical training workshops and serve as a mentor to less experienced architects and other technical professionals.

  • Interface with the cost estimating staff and various disciplines required to design a project.

  • Manage projects on occasion.

  • Perform other duties as necessary.

What will you contribute?

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture; Master's degree in Architecture or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Architects with fifteen years’ experience since bachelor’s degree or fourteen years with master’s degree.

  • Have strong technical writing and communication skills; proven through technical presentations, technical papers and/or participation in technical committees.

  • The ability to solve technical problems, which may require creativity, foresight, and mature architectural judgment.

  • Experience interfacing with senior technical professionals, technical managers, and administrative staff and managers as necessary.

  • Skills in persuasion and negotiation of critical issues.

  • Registered as a licensed architect.
