If you are a mechanical engineer with experience within the nuclear industry, and love the idea of joining our Plant Systems and Safety Team, then we are all waiting for you to join our team. You’ll enjoy working on technically challenging engineering projects and be able to solve complex problems, clearly communicating this solution to others.
If this sounds like a role for you, please read on to find out more.
The Role
A key aspect of our work within Plant Systems and Safety Mechanical Plant is to provide the nuclear safety justification for changes to the plant or operations at a power station. You should have experience of demonstrating and ensuring safety on engineering projects, as well as substantiating the functionality of systems or components.
Increasingly our work is also focussed on supporting new build projects and developing the safety arguments to support licensing, design and construction of new power stations. You’ll help to grow our technical capability to address a diverse range of problems in a safety critical environment.
Our reputation is centred on delivering the right engineering solutions to our clients’ problems. We value the relationship we have with our client and would expect you to improve the engineering service we provide, and build close relationships with the client, founded on trust and delivery.
The Plant Systems and Safety Team works across numerous plant areas, each with different technical challenges. These include: lifting integrity, stress/loading assessments, pressure boundary analysis, heat transfer and nuclear safety assessments. Our engineers are expected to help define the problem, identifying an appropriate methodology and justifying the right solution(s). A strong mechanical engineering background is essential, as well as an aptitude to develop into new technical areas quickly.
The Person
We are looking for people who relish technically challenging engineering projects. You should have the ability to solve complex problems and be able to clearly communicate this solution to others.
You will be proactive and have excellent communication and presentation skills. You will also have a strong appreciation of the commercial aspects of consultancy, to identify project risks and to ensure mitigations are identified and in place.
Staff development and career progression is crucial to our business and we are therefore seeking highly motivated engineers that can help others to develop and achieve their potential. You will therefore have skills in (or an interest in undertaking) the leadership and development / mentoring of staff and help to develop others by sharing your knowledge and experience.
In addition to having experience in a safety critical industry you will be able to demonstrate the following:
• Honours Degree (or equivalent) in mechanical engineering or related discipline (2:1 minimum).
• Chartered Engineer or in advanced stages of working towards chartership with the IMechE (or another engineering profession).
• Technical practitioner able to demonstrate sound engineering judgement and with extensive experience in using fundamental engineering skills.
• Proven record of delivering technically challenging projects.
• Able to produce and review/correct high quality technical reports.
• Motivated and driven to meet delivery/cost targets without compromising quality.
