The Senior Show Designer will already have a developed skill set and will look to grow and expand knowledge by working with senior staff on a range of ambitious and world’s first projects. They will have considerable input into the guest experience, which will be matched with a demanding timeline and high expectations. Responsible for helping to drive the creative direction of concept, inspirational imagery, current trends, general art direction, and the design development of the overall project. Reports to and collaborates with the Director of Creative, Theming and Show Design and project team to develop and direct creative design intent to satisfy project creative, business, technical, and operational objectives.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Visual design direction and defines design elements of the project that affect the guest experience

In collaboration with the development team, act as design “vision-keeper” for the project

Interacts with project management, subconsultants, facility team, internal teams and other disciplines with professionalism. Must establish clear lines of open communication and represent the creative intent for the “show”, and any guest touch points

Experience managing large amounts of information and assessing critical vs non-critical items and actions

Participate in early concept development, design development, through to IFC, costing, schedules and technical reviews, drawings reviews, and client meetings

Develop creative design, colour boards, sketching, drafting, and models and other creative output that outline solutions to integrate elements into a themed environment

Provides concept design for the experience and guest flow with staff models, sets, show, and scenic elements through various visual tools that includes the use of art, illustration, architecture, drawings, paint, sketches, storyboards, 2D and 3D digital design and multimedia mediums

Develop, organize, high-quality (Creative, Show, Scenic, AV, SPFX, Props, Lighting, Façade, ID,) design packages that articulate the project’s creative design intent, demonstrates creative, artistic, and illustration abilities, and integrates details the various show elements of an attraction (such as scenery, special effects, show action equipment, animated figures, props, animated props, audio equipment, and lighting equipment)

Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Creative

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Ability to make decisions on the fly and under pressure. Iterate complex ideas verbally, written and/or provide visuals and materials. The individual must have indepth knowledge of facilities, show sets, rides, spfx, venues, including color theory, art, architecture, perspective, theatrical lighting techniques, audio-visual and storytelling. This position will require some travel. You’ll have an unrestricted right to travel globally.

SCOPE:

Responsible for supporting and providing guidance to teams of creative, modelers, architectural designers, interior designers, landscape architects etc. Practices supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Influences challenging personalities requiring a high degree of tact.

EDUCATION:

Technical/Vocational schooling is preferred.

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Theater, Art, Film, or Architecture is required.

EXPERIENCE:

Design in world-class theme parks or related industries for themed entertainment guest experiences for attractions, buildings, hospitality, F&B and retail;

Must have 10-15 years of guest experience, themed entertainment venues and attraction design.

Proficient in Revit, BIM, AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office
