Atkins has been experiencing a period of sustained growth across various market sectors, including defence, cyber security, airports, water & industrial. We are primarily a projects-based business, providing technical consultancy & solutions primarily to the UK market and are seeking the right individuals to join our growing team in Aldershot, Hampshire, UK.

We require a .Net Software Developer based in our Aldershot office to support the development of applications, mathematical models and graphical user interfaces.

The right candidates will need to demonstrate excellent programming and mathematical skills, a desire to be challenged and to contribute towards the success and growth of the business. Roles and Responsibilities
1. work as part of a small software development team to produce technical work, as directed by the Project Manager and the Lead Developer;
2. ensure that software developed is both tested and documented;
3. identify the overall project and business goals and help to achieve them;
4. communicate effectively and build positive relationships with colleagues and clients, developing networks of contacts internally and externally;
5. maintain and demonstrate strong technical competence; find new and better ways of carrying out the role.

The Requirements
1. degree or equivalent in Computer Science (other numerate degrees will be considered);
2. A-level Mathematics (or equivalent);
3. knowledge of Microsoft VB.Net or competence in other object oriented or imperative programming languages such as JAVA, C#, C++;
4. willingness to work in Microsoft VB.Net;
5. willingness to learn other languages as the needs of the business require;
6. awareness of relational databases including MS SQL;
7. strong problem solving skills;
8. good attention to detail;
9. enthusiastic, pro-active approach;
10. commitment to Software Engineering good practice;
11. excellent communication in the English language, both written and verbal, and with colleagues and clients.

Provided you have appropriate programming competence, Atkins will support you in learning development languages as necessary.

Desirable attributes:
1. previous experience in modelling and simulation of real world problems; 3D modelling; physics; user interfaces;
2. an interest in scientific and engineering analysis;
3. experience of creating fast, efficient, simple solutions to complex problems, using efficient computer algorithms and data structures;
4. experience of working in a technical or consulting environment.

Additional information
Occasional work outside normal office hours may be necessary. Travel to and from client sites and/or temporary secondment to client’s offices may also be required. Secondments to other Atkins offices overseas may be available.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
