The Water Management Consultancy team in Atkins is delivering water EIAs for flagship transport projects in the UK – strategic road schemes, HS2 and East-West Rail are some recent examples. We deliver solutions in partnership with our clients ensuring that our EIA and specialist services are focused and effective, mitigating and enhancing the human and natural world. We are a key provider for this specialist area and intend to build on this to grow our team and continue leading projects in this area.
Our team in Peterborough is delivering innovative solutions for Water Resource Management Planning, climate change adaptation, hydroecology, geomorphology and flood risk. We are seeking a candidate capable of working both independently and supporting Project Managers to deliver high-profile projects across the UK as required. There will also be the opportunity to get involved with our wider work in Peterborough across water resources, climate change, hydrology and flood risk.
The vacancy is for someone who will combine excellent technical skills with a desire to improve the environment. The successful applicant can expect to become a lead EIA specialist and project manager for the water environment sector.
Requirements
• Must have a degree in a relevant discipline (with a focus on Water/Catchment Management).
• 1 to 2 years’ experience in delivering high-profile high-calibre work.
• Knowledge of or experience in EIA for water is a key requirement, working on infrastructure linear schemes would be an advantage.
• Good knowledge of the water environment, Water Framework Directive (WFD) and a some of the approaches to EIA for water is essential.
• Experience of hydro-ecological investigation, water quality and water resource planning would be desirable.
• Applicants must be highly numerate, literate and familiar with IT and software appropriate to the tasks undertaken.
• Working towards Chartered status (e.g. CIWEM, CEnv, MIEMA), so we can support you through to a successful application.
• Driving licence desirable, be available to travel across the UK.
Responsibilities
The role will involve, but is not limited to:
• Supporting the delivery of water EIA projects within our portfolio of work and collaborating with other professionals across Water Management Consultancy and the wider Atkins’ businesses.
• Helping to develop the technical capability within Water Management Consultancy and its Technical Networks.
• Maintaining excellent professional relationships with internal and external clients which will secure repeat business.
You will also be responsible for working with the rest of the Water Management Consultancy team and Atkins staff in general in advancing our technical capability to the highest standard and growing the business. This will include identifying innovative approaches and techniques and presenting technical papers, where appropriate.

• Good numerical skills, with some experience of working with spreadsheets and GIS systems.
