We are hiring for a Water Resources Engineering Intern (EIT) to join our growing team in Toronto, ON.
As a member of our Municipal Engineering Group in the Engineering Services Division for Central Canada, you will be working in a fast-paced team-oriented environment. You will be working on developing studies, reports and detailed designs in collaboration with road, utilities, structural, traffic, environmental, geotechnical, foundations, geomatics, rail and electrical design during our design assignments.
Your role within the team
- Conduct hydrological and hydraulic analysis, including flood mapping, water balance analysis, hydraulic and hydrologic modeling, and LID Design.
- Develop engineering designs and drawings from preliminary concepts, specifications, bid documents, engineering directives, and other data, according to client specifications for municipal road, site, and highway infrastructure projects.
- Performs basic calculations to analyze and design water resources system components using company standard software and proprietary manufacturer software (e.g., SWMHYMO, PCSWMM, GIS, Culvert Master, HEC-RAS, etc.).
- Working knowledge of using different design criteria manuals from Cities, MTO, MOE, and Conservation Authorities.
- Prepare reports, calculations, technical memos, and meeting minutes, and designs including profiles, cross sections, and storm drainage/LID systems.
- Develop and oversee preparation of contract packages including design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Support project management, proposal writing and business development and client base support.

The ideal candidate
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering (Water Resources) from a recognized institution. Registered as an Engineering Intern (EIT) with Professional Engineers Ontario.
- Minimum 3 years of Water Resources Engineering experience including experience with water resources modeling programs such as HEC-RAS, PC-SWMM, EPA SWMM, Info Works, VISUAL OTTHYMO, etc.
- Demonstrated experience in civil engineering design and project engineering in municipal roads and/or highways including preliminary and detailed design, specifications, and contract documents.
- Working knowledge of current design software including MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Civil 3D would be an asset.
- Familiarity with water resources policies, standards and practices in Ontario and familiarity with municipal and provincial clients and approving agencies.
