Enable employee resource group
Disability and inclusion at AtkinsRéalis
At AtkinsRéalis, we believe that every employee should feel included and empowered to thrive. Our Enable network is dedicated to removing barriers and providing essential support to employees with any type of disability or health condition. Since its formation in 2017, the network has grown significantly, offering leadership guidance, peer-level support, and educational webinars.
We are committed to promoting inclusive design, addressing stigma around disability and improving the workplace for everyone. Our efforts have earned us recognition as Disability Confident Leaders, and we continue to share our knowledge, learn from others, and advocate for the rights and inclusion of people with disabilities and health conditions.

Initiatives, events and outreach
Here are some of our recent initiatives and resources to support employees and line managers:
- Line manager guidance: Our comprehensive guidance provides crucial information for line managers to effectively support employees with disabilities and health conditions.
- Making projects more inclusive: A panel discussion around how inclusive design can apply to all projects.
- Racism, sexism and ableism: Racism, sexism and ableism: similarities and differences: A panel event hosted with our Embrace, Empower and Faith networks on social barriers facing groups of people.
- Balancing your wellbeing when children have disabilities or health conditions: A panel event with our ParentNet and Neurodiversity networks on managing conflicts, time and emotion.
- Why do people mask their situation?: A panel event with our Equilibrium (LGBTQ+) and Neurodiversity networks on why people may hide part of their personality.
- Intersection, identity and engineering: Feature on the Engineering Matters podcast discussing intersectionality through the disability perspective.
- Thriving at work whilst shaping inclusive policies: Read Adam’s personal story as an acoustician with Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia (HSP).
- Community groups and buddy network: Our Enable network includes community groups and a Buddy Network that offer peer support and resources.
- Inclusion moments: We’ve developed numerous “Inclusion Moments” that can be used to start meetings, fostering a more inclusive workplace culture.
Looking forward
As we continue to build on our successes, we are excited to:
- Expand our buddy network: Offering more support for employees and line managers alike.
- Enhance flexible working policies: Shaping inclusive policies that accommodate diverse needs.
- Host more educational events: Including discussions on accessible and inclusive design, and the importance of being an ally to the ENABLE network.
- Continue our advocacy and awareness efforts: Through podcasts, intersectional panel discussions, and more, we keep pushing for inclusive design and a supportive workplace for everyone.
We are proud of the progress we’ve made and are committed to continuing our efforts to create a workplace where everyone can thrive.
Our commitment to disability inclusion
The Disability Confident Leader status is the highest level (Level 3) of the Disability Confident employer scheme, a government-supported scheme that helps organisations like ours make the most of the talents people with disabilities can bring to our workplace. We're proud to be one of the first engineering design consultancies under 'manufacturing and engineering' companies to achieve this recognition.
