Asset Management Lead

We are looking for an outstanding candidate to join a mixed offshore wind/oil and gas structural design and analysis team within our Engineering and Consulting business.  As the Asset Management Lead within the offshore wind market, you will have responsibilities for both project delivery and development of the offshore wind asset management workstream.  

You will be responsible for growing the offshore wind asset management business both within the UK and worldwide, based on your extensive experience of this sector.  Your experience will help us improve our approach and will help us clearly articulate what value we will bring to the many international operators of offshore windfarms.  You will actively develop and maintain relationships within the industry and look for and lead bidding opportunities to increase the pipeline of work for the business.  You will also have responsibilities in relation to resource and technical capability development in order to meet the requirements of the market.

In addition to business development, you will take a lead role in project delivery.  It is anticipated that you will focus on asset management projects and will provide oversight to both existing and future projects.  In addition to asset management, you may also be involved in our wider portfolio of offshore structural design projects.  You will have responsibility to manage and direct resources, including forecasting and progress reporting.  As a principal engineer / engineering manager, you will have significant client-facing responsibility during project delivery.  Depending on the scope and structure of the project, it is likely that you will be the primary client contact.

You will take responsibility for developing the existing capability of the team, including identifying areas for investment in technical capability for meet current and future market demands.  You will have a highly proactive nature, and will look to take a lead role in developing and promoting technical governance and associated best practice for offshore asset management.  This will include championing continuous improvement in the group to encourage robust working behaviours to achieve greater efficiencies, strong delivery and a team ethos.  You will provide technical and managerial leadership to the rest of the team and be a strong mentor to junior / mid-grade engineers.



As a senior member of the team, you will lead by example and inspire those around you. 

Key Requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering to Masters level. 
• Demonstrate experience in, or awareness of, all of the following;
o Offshore wind asset management
o Structural integrity assessment
o Risk-based maintenance and inspection planning
o Asset life extension and substantiation
o Offshore O&M activities
o Steel design/assessment to DNVGL, Eurocode, Norsok, API
o Fabrication queries and technical solutions to fabrication issues
o Ability to critique and understand the outputs of linear and non-linear FE packages
o Steel design, including structural remediation
o Design/analysis for fatigue
o Project controls, document control and project management
• A strong ability to engage closely and regularly with clients, to both deliver and develop new work streams/opportunities.
• Experience in winning work and identifying opportunities.
• A successful track record of leading and solving complex structural integrity problems and associated quality assurance.
• A successful track record of managing and leading small and large technical delivery teams to produce high quality deliverables, satisfying client requirements to time and budget.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to write accurate, detailed and concise technical reports (e.g. design substantiations, bases of analysis and calculations) as well as manage and enable the writing of high quality written deliverables within your team.
• Extensive experience of technical leadership and/or staff line management roles and responsibilities. You will be motivated to lead, motivate, mentor, teach and guide junior members of your team. 
• Experience of project management aspects such as budget control, resourcing and schedule management.
• A keen commercial awareness, positive stakeholder management experience and ability to reliably deliver to time, quality and cost.
• Comfortable when engaging with prospective and existing client at all levels, working at their sites and investing time in understanding their design and objectives and processes.
• Experience of engaging with certifying bodies and responding to robust technical challenge from certification bodies, clients or stakeholders.

Advantageous Skills/Experience

• Extensive years of proven experience of working within offshore energy industries and familiarity with a reasonable selection of the DNVGL, Noble Denton, Eurocodes, API, Norsok, EEMUA, AISC and other relevant codes
• The ability to lead and deliver multiple projects simultaneously, to a wide range of internal and external clients.
• Experience of driving project and departmental process change and building systems and behaviours that improve efficiency and quality.
• A proven ability to manage change and a willingness to improve change management processes. 
• Demonstrable experience of working with multi-location teams around the country and the globe, and experience of procedure and system design to enable and improve this. 
• Experience of large scale integrity management or design projects requiring novel and complex solutions where there is little or no industry experience.

• The role will be nominally based in one of SNC-Lavalin’s Bristol, Epsom or Glasgow offices, and it is likely that some time will be spent in each.  It is anticipated that travel to other company and client sites (in some instances to overseas locations) will be necessary.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
