Assistant Project Manager

The role of the Project Manager is to actively assist in managing projects, key clients, and a wide variety of other business initiatives. A multidiscipline team of architects, engineers and cost management consultants providing a comprehensive service to Atkins clients.

Responsibilities:

• Overall management of the project
• Preparation of the project brief and project quality plan
• Establish project scope and objectives
• Preparation of progress reports
• Oversee the tender and contract award
• Preparation and maintenance of the project programme with the Project Planner
• Organise and implement presentation of designs to the Client
• Preparation and maintenance of programme for design review and ensuring its implementation
• Financial management of the project
• Identify and manage project specific risks
• Cost reporting to the Client
• Set out / agree design standards and parameters
• Monitoring quality of the work
• Preparation of design changes and management of change
• Appointment and management of all required sub-consultants or other services
• Technical co-ordination with discipline heads

Requirements:

Technical Competencies:

Essential:

• Degree qualified – minimum requirement of BSc Architecture and other professional qualification
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in Architecture and/or Design Management; ability to manage projects and significant commercial experience
• Experience of preparing design consultancy tender submissions.
• Knowledge and understanding of a commercial stage gate process
• Able to solve problems by thinking laterally and able to understand the needs and requirements of providing design solutions in a developing country
• Experience in building design
• Experience in design team leadership
• Resource planning and cash flow forecasting
• Must be familiar with design, tender and construction processes
• Reasonable knowledge of the following software: project planning software and MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desirable:

• Master degree (preferable)
• Member of RIBA, ICE or IStructE Behavioural Competencies

Essential:

• Excellent communication skills in written and spoken English essential
• Ability to lead a multi-disciplinary design team
• Able to make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a proactive way
• Good interpersonal skills, telephone skills, customer focus, etc.
• Organised and able to work with remote design teams
• Must look forward to working in a multicultural team and be able to manage challenging client relationships
