Consultant Transport Data Analytics

  1. Cities & development, Transportation

This vacancy has now expired. Please see similar roles below...

With the advent of ‘big data’, including historical, real-time and new location based datasets, traditional transport modellers and planners are now able to consider more activity based models. This requires innovative ways to manage and analyse substantial datasets and draw inferences between activities and real world controls. As such transport planners more than ever need mathematical and statistical analysis skills to identify trends and variations, and to estimate the significance of observed relationships or confidence limits of statistics to advance established modelling techniques.

Atkins continue to develop our Data Analytics capabilities both in transport modelling and across the wider transport planning profession. We are looking for an appropriately skilled individual to help shape, develop and lead our capabilities supported by existing data analysts / scientists and transport planners with existing domain knowledge already embedded within our teams

The role will include:

• Leading on developing the data analytics agenda within the Consultancy Practice
• Project Management of data analytics and other transport modelling project studies
• Client liaison and sales
• Identification and prioritisation of data analytics opportunities

• Knowledge of Department for Transport Modelling guidance (WebTAG) and other best practice.

Database Design and Development

• knowledge and experience in designing and working with structured and unstructured data

Statistical Modelling and Bespoke Analysis

• Ability to develop specialist tools and techniques for bespoke analysis of travel behaviour, in accordance with good practice, to gain quantitative insight on consumer behaviour.

GIS (Geographical Information Systems) Development & Analysis

• Ability to undertake spatial analysis including the identification and sourcing of relevant datasets and interpreting results.

Reporting

GIS / Data Transformation

• Automating the transformation of data and data engineering (eg FME software / MapBasic etc)

Data Sampling

• Knowledge to undertake sample design to ensure reliable datasets

Location-Based Technology Data

• Their knowledge of the structures used by typical datasets storing information from mobile, GPS, Bluetooth, WiFi or similar devices.
• Their understanding of the challenges of converting such data into structures suitable for strategic analysis of multimodal travel demand.
• How the analysis of such data can be used to reduce, over time, the reliance on traditional forms of travel data collection.
