Atkins’ Transportation is our centre of excellence for the design of highway and rail infrastructure projects. We aim to be the first choice designer for local and national highway authorities, Network Rail, contractors and developers. We are working on a number of high profile projects and frameworks nationwide, including Cambridge to Huntingdon A14 upgrade and Smart Motorways programme through the Collaborative Delivery Framework for Highways England, Cross Rail, Great Western Electrification Programme, HS2 and related projects.

To build on our success and to meet our growth ambitions we are seeking a high calibre Digital Engineer Programme Manager, to support the Digital Engineering Director with the roll out of our digital strategy on key projects throughout the UK. We are looking for people who can engage with clients, develop relationships and opportunities, direct or manage bids and deliver project outcomes to delighted clients. As our industry is moving to more collaborative models of project delivery, we want to work with people who show the right behaviours to work successfully with clients and partners in collaborative teams and alliances.

We seek to appoint people to work within our team based in Bristol, although there will also be a requirement to travel across the UK and potentially abroad to meet the needs of our projects and clients. Our model of project delivery includes working with teams from across the UK and from our Global Delivery Centres in India. You would travel as necessary to enable them to form a high performing team and ensure successful project delivery.

The role
The successful development of bids and the delivery of projects that have digital innovation at their heart requires a programme manager, to support the Digital Engineering director and leadership team, with roll out projects. The role of the programme manager therefore entails;

• Manging the bidding pipeline and ensuring Digital Engineering has been planned and costed appropriately.
• Support the win work/bidding teams with developing Digital Delivery Plans
• Support the bidding/project teams with establishing automation challenges for projects in bid/mobilisation stage
• Manage the projects that are implementing Digital Engineering to provide/ensure;
o The projects are setting realistic targets in regard to implementation and the associated savings in time and money
o Monitoring the implementation of digital within the projects via our KPI tool
o Monitoring the financial savings made in the projects
o Knowledge/lessons learnt are shared and utilised across transportation projects
o Liaison with the DE leadership team, to ensure the projects have the technical support they require, e.g. DE Champions, BIM Managers, Information Managers.
• Act as the first point of contact for local Digital Engineering queries
• Ensure that the digital workbench has all the automation tools their office and practice requires, and that they are easily found.
• Support the project teams to undertake regular Digital Engineering Maturity Measure assessments.
• Attend workshops and webinars and provide innovative suggestions and ideas that will contribute towards development and approval of the technical assessment tool, standard methods and processes, technical tools and training curriculum;
• Meet with the digital programme team to strategize the launch of digital initiatives;
• Act as an advocate for emergent digital tools, processes and training curriculum;
• Be empowered to implement technology and processes on behalf of their business;
• Input at workshops and webinars during the DDD Programme roll-out;
• Take up of new initiatives within their business;
• Participation in testing of the assessment tool and L&D curriculum;


Requirements:
Essential
• Experience in the delivery of Digital Engineering/BIM on projects
• Experience in using Autodesk/Bentley design software
• Experience in utilisation of openBIM data formats
• Experience in managing projects within a CDE
• A track record of excellent project delivery on programme, deliverable quality and risk management with excellent client feedback
• Appropriate academic and professional qualifications, including Member of a relevant Professional Institution with solid experience in a leading project role.
• Experience of working with our key clients, e.g. Network Rail, Local Authorities, Highways England, developers and major contractors.
• Experience of successful opportunity development and management
• Experience of developing successful bids
• Proven ability to maintain relevant skills and knowledge and pass these on to others
• The ability to lead collaborative work teams
• Proven ability to manage and organise the workload of self and others to meet programme and budget targets and deliver agreed commercial outcomes
• Proven ability to keep control in pressurised situations, deliver work to the required quality within set timeframes and create a well-motivated team
• Demonstrable passion for safety leadership

Desirable
• Software Programming experience
• PRINCE 2 Practitioner or equivalent qualification in Project Management
• Knowledge of project scheduling and resourcing using Primavera or similar
• Experience of business process improvement techniques, for example, Lean Construction.
• Experience of construction and contract management and supervision
• Line management experience.

• A collaborative approach to working with others focussing on customer value
• Be available to travel across the UK and work away from home for short periods

• Have a valid UK driving licence.
