Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Chicago, IL Rail & Transit Group as a Director of Fleet Management.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Provide project leadership/management of complex rail equipment projects. Immediate opportunity is associated with a potential 9 year contract/program involves responsibility for detailed budgets, equipment operation management/deployment, regulatory agency involvement and coordination of highly complex technical requirements. The role, as Director of Fleet management shall involve providing leadership, direction, and project/technical guidance to the client as well as to the fleet management oversight consulting team comprising senior project managers and project managers within assigned areas of responsibility to ensure that quality management and technical services are provided to the client(s) and that operating performance targets are met.


JOB DUTIES
  • Staff leadership of the fleet oversight consulting team comprising a Fleet Manager, Finance Manager and Subject Matter Experts.
  • Oversee and administer the Fleet Management Contract (three 3-year extensions).
  • Oversee project budgets.
  • Oversee fleet warranty administration.
  • Oversee fleet spare parts inventory.
  • Oversee fleet maintenance & tools to track the Operator/maintainer performance.
  • Oversee contract and insurable issues with Operator/maintainer.
  • Provide project management support (cost, schedule, planning etc.) to the client as called for during the day to day delivery of the fleet management leadership role.
  • Perform such other duties as the Supervisor may deem necessary from time to time.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering preferred. This level may be achieved with fifteen years experience since Bachelor's or fourteen years since Master's. In lieu of a degree, 20 years of theoretical and applied experience in advanced Rail Signaling Systems required. Typical incumbent has 20+ years of experience.


SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Thorough knowledge of a major transit signal system. Strong quantitative, analytical, problem solving, decisionmaking skills, and critical-thinking abilities. Strong persuasive ability, technical writing and communications skills are expected at this level, proven through technical presentations, technical papers and/or participation in technical committees. May be eligible for project management training.


PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • Registration as a licensed professional engineer is generally required. However, extensive experience may be substituted in lieu of licensing.
