Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to develop a career as an ecological consultant? We are seeking an ecologist to join our South-East Ecology team in the Epsom office. This is a permanent position.

The majority of work is likely to be within the South-East region, but there will be technical collaboration and networking with the ecologists and other colleagues working within the company around the UK, with opportunities to work in other regions of the UK. We support our staff in developing their careers through formal training and working alongside experienced colleagues.



Responsibilities
The role involves, but is not limited to:
• Providing support to the South-East Ecology team and other UK ecology teams when needed;
• Working with other professionals (environmental scientists, engineers, planning consultants) throughout Atkins to provide a consistent and integrated service to clients;
• Supporting the team with winning work from internal and external clients.
• Undertaking desk studies to identify ecological information for sites;
• Assisting on field surveys and mitigation work, and helping to plan and co-ordinate ecological input to projects;
• Undertaking technical reporting tasks including protected species survey reports, and constraints and opportunities reports;
• Assisting with Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIA); and
• Undertaking nature conservation/ecology evaluations, and assisting with licence applications and ecological mitigation design, with support from colleagues.

About you
If you have the following attributes and experience, then we want to hear from you:

• Dedicated and proactive;
• Willing to learn;
• Happy to work outside of normal office hours;
• A relevant degree;
• Experience of technical report writing at work or during study;
• Basic knowledge of survey and assessment for UK habitats and notable/protected species, and an enthusiasm to develop skills;
• Basic understanding of relevant UK & EU nature conservation legislation, and UK and local policy relating to planning and biodiversity;
• Basic understanding of EcIA; and
• Basic knowledge of extended Phase 1 habitat survey and protected species surveys.

• A full UK driver’s licence would be an advantage.
