Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Primarily assists the Journeyman Electrician on all routine and abnormal work activities.
• Depending on the level of experience the helper often can and may perform journeyman task, depending on the scope of instructions given by the journeyman.
• As directed by Journeyman, may load, transport, unload, and furnish journeyman with materials, tools, equipment, and supplies
• Required to assist in staging materials and in the layout and measuring of materials for installation.
• Assists Journeyman in transporting, measuring, cutting and threading of aluminum & galvanized conduit and fittings for installation.
• Will assist in transporting, measuring and pulling wire into conduits, cable tray and instillation
• Assists in transporting, measuring, cutting of supports for cable tray and other conduit supports.
• Assists in wiring and checking electrical motors.
• Required to perform runner/expeditor functions for his or her assigned crew or for the Journeyman as well as running down Supervisors to answer questions or provide additional information.
• Responsible for retrieving and returning all essential tools from the tool room on a daily basis to support the day’s specific job task.
Requirements:
• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent and 2 previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Preferred but not required a State Apprenticeship License.
• Ability to effectively verbally communicate directions from craft journeyman, and respond to questions from fellow coworkers and managers.
• Has knowledge of good housekeeping, commonly-used concepts, practices, materials and procedures within a particular field.
• Follows specific directions; performs a variety of duties which may often change; work within standards of accuracy; repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure; evaluate information using measurable standards.
• Works under close supervision.
• Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
• Typically reports to an area or site supervisor or manager.
• Ability to lift at least 50 pounds.
• Ability to reach with arms and use tools above/over the head.
• Ability to perform repetitive movements.
• Ability to use hands to grasp.
• Ability to stand (for extended periods of time), walk, stoop, kneel, squat, crawl and twist.
• Ability to sit, balance and climb ladders, scaffolds and other objects.
• Ability to carry tools.
• Ability to move in and around confined and cluttered places and uneven areas.
• Ability to work up to a 12-hour shift in all weather and temperature extremes.
• Ability to distinguish colors.
• Vision adequate to perform all required tasks.
