Role Summary

The Financial controller for ADS&T Practices is responsible for the practice operations within the division.  Key point of contact for the practice directors and support to the business. Production of the individual and consolidated practice accounts along with appropriate commentary and reporting.  The role reports directly to the Senior Financial Controller.

Requirements

  • A qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA or equivalent) with post qualified experience
  • Detailed knowledge of Atkins’ finance processes, standards and systems would be an advantage
  • Business partnering experience
  • The role will require some travel, mainly within the UK

Responsibilities

  • Oversee practice accounts, budgets and quarterly forecasts, along with commentaries & associated reporting
  • Development and maintenance of the productivity reporting tools, from weekly reporting through to glidepath predictions.
  • Overhead control across the practices including the property account management for the non-pooled properties
  • Monthly: Review practice accounts, reconciliations, reporting and glide path analysis
  • Quarterly: Oversee quarterly practice forecasts, associated reporting and engage with the capacity planning process
  • Annually: PAYE Settlement Agreement (PSA) practice returns and preparation of audit documentation
  • Monitor, analyse and report on staff resources, including productivity, utilisation, availability and future expectations
  • Finance support relating to divisional and practice-related investments
  • Supervision and line management of junior staff
  • Business Partnering role:
    • QSSE manager with the Estates discussions from agreeing future lease decisions and changes in office locations
    • Work in collaboration with the Project control office and Project accounting hub
  • Participate in stage gate reviews representing finance from both Markets and practices
  • Ad hoc projects and support to the senior financial controller

Competencies

  • Strong technical accounting skills & knowledge
  • Commercial awareness and business understanding
  • Strong Excel skills (to advanced level including pivot tables, look-ups and macros)
  • Broad understanding of tax and compliance matters
  • Strong people skills; comfortable in interacting with operational and financial staff and management at all levels of seniority
  • Well-developed communication and influencing skills
  • Collaborative approach
