International Tax Manager - Middle East

We have a vacancy in the Middle East team for a International Tax Manager, reporting to the VP Global Tax in Canada and the Finance Director & Regional Controller ME&A. The successful candidate will be part of a team of over 40 tax professionals, based in Canada and the UK.

 

Responsibilities

 

The primary responsibility is to be a Tax business partner to the ME business (and potentially other areas too)., and support the VP International Tax / Finance Director / Financial Controller where required. In addition, the role will also review all new project bids where there is a cross-border element or involves a new jurisdiction to advice on the tax implications and incremental costs of the proposed project.

 

You will be a key partner to the business, providing advice to non-finance staff in a clear, comprehensible manner. You will play an essential part in the financial management from project level, strategic planning and business process support. You will also work with the other members of the Global Tax Team (based in Canada and in the UK) to support head office tax reporting and compliance requirements.

 

Finance in the Middle East is intrinsically connected with the operating heart of the business and as such, this role will be expected to communicate widely with the business and the Tax Teams in the UK and Canada.

 

Specific

  • Working with the business to ensure that contracts are set up in the most appropriate manner and incremental tax costs are included in the project financial cost build up
  • Interacting with the internal stakeholders, explaining tax issues and assisting in tax compliance issues
  • Working with the Global Tax team to ensure ME processes meet OECD and local Transfer Pricing requirements
  • Assisting issues arising from tax audits or queries from revenue authorities
  • Assisting with the design, structuring and execution of transactions of cross-border reorganizations, acquisitions and domestic transactions
  • Help Regional Finance to be largely self-sufficient from an Indirect Tax perspective, assist in rolling out VAT introduction in other GCC countries
  • Proactive in working with Project Managers and Design Managers to ascertain project details and to determine tax implications
  • Supporting tax compliance and reporting functions on technical tax matters

Requirements

  • Graduate, qualified with 5 years international tax experience within a progressive & modern business.
  • Contracting or engineering services business experience will be highly beneficial
  • Good understanding of GCC Tax Regimes and understanding of implications on proposed new or existing work, together with ensuring ethics is a critical concern
  • Commercially minded tax professional with experience of applying tax advice in an understanding manner to ensure ethical compliance
  • Good technical knowledge of established tax system (both Direct and Indirect taxes) as well as cross-border trading (WHT, PEs, Income Taxes, VAT)
  • Strong communication and presentational skills
  • Good excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Will be culturally aware and able to work with a diverse team, with a high level of integrity.
  • Capable of intelligent debate and questioning his or her colleagues without being abrasive – able to communicate complexity clearly. Innovative, commercial disciplined and accurate.

 

Technical Competencies

 

Essential

  • Qualified ACCA/CIMA/ACA or other recognized Western tax or accounting qualification;
  • Up to 5 years post qualified experience within an International Tax environment
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel;
  • High standard of (numerical) presentation skills;
  • Working knowledge of other Microsoft office tools;
  • Experience of interacting with multiple businesses and finance functions;
  • Experience of working within a multi-cultural environment.

 

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of JD Edwards, Hyperion and other finance specific IT systems and databases;
  • GCC Tax exposure
  • Contracting or Consultancy business experience.
