Summary

Candu Energy Inc. is looking to recruit a stellar Manufacturing Manager to join our busy manufacturing facility based in Mississauga. This person will be managing a team of individuals including machine shop supervisors for both day and night shift.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Management/leadership of the machine, fabrication and metrology shops
  • Ensure resources are in place to support Candu Energy projects, providing high quality and cost-effective manufacturing services
  • Promote a strong safety culture in the shops
  • Ensure that all work done meets or exceeds both the Candu Energy Quality Program and customer requirements, and complies with all applicable regulatory standards (e.g. CSA and/or ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code)
  • Communicate effectively on a daily basis with supervisors and staff in the functional department on all matters ranging from employee concerns to changing manufacturing priorities
  • Communicate effectively on a daily basis with both internal and external customers on technical, commercial, delivery and quality issues
  • Develop and maintain a good relationship with unionized machinists and welders, building a strong team that will be eager to support internal and external customers
  • Develop and maintain a good relationship with Candu Energy project leadership and external customers in order to promote Candu Energy's manufacturing capabilities and respond effectively to emergency needs
  • Contribute to meeting the revenue, direct margin and overhead cost targets of the Tooling and Services organization
  • Ensure manufacturing scope on Candu Energy projects is executed within budget and on schedule, in accordance to timing and cost estimates agreed with project managers
  • Demonstrate financial/strategic benefits of internal manufacturing operations as a core competence of Candu Energy by ongoing bench marking of costs/capabilities of third party providers
  • Ensure that Manufacturing Services equipment is maintained in good working order through continual implementation of preventative maintenance program
  • Develop plans and secure capital authorization for new equipment to continually improve capability and efficiency of operations and ensure that Candu Energy retains leading technical capability
  • Ensure that there is sufficient trained staff to complete work safely and in a timely manner, while meeting or exceeding the customer's quality requirements
  • Manage manufacturing services overhead and capital budgets
  • Liaise with corporate finance and procurement as required in completion of capital projects
  • Oversee the recruitment, development and performance reviews of manufacturing staff
  • Ensure all employee matters are handled in accordance with collective agreements
  • Understand the various projects at Candu Energy and communicate effectively to resolve shop scheduling conflicts that will affect the delivery of different projects

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years of related manufacturing experience
  • Management/leadership experience, particularly overseeing the work of skilled trades in a unionized environment
  • Familiarity with quality assurance programs, and the codes and standards that govern nuclear equipment manufacturing
  • A business background is an asset
  • Creative use of resources to minimize the use of overtime to meet schedule requirements
  • Comfortable taking on challenges such as conflicting priorities and short deadlines
  • Willingness and ability to train and coach junior staff while implementation additional shifts, during hours where limited management staff are present
