Job Description

SNC-Lavalin is a leader in the provision of assurance services (certification, safety, compliance) to the rail industry and is seeking high calibre individuals to enhance this service area. This is an ideal opportunity for individuals wishing to start a career, or to develop an existing career, in an organisation that will provide wide-ranging opportunities across all rail systems.

The Opportunity

The Engineering Vehicle Certification Team is an established part of the Assurance Team within Rail Consulting, operating successfully for over 15 years. They currently offer approvals services to a wide variety of UK, Ireland and European clients such as Plasser & Theurer, Liebherr and Geismar.

The Engineering Vehicle Certification team is looking to appoint an ambitious Engineer to work with both the On-Track Plant / On-Track Machine teams.

This opportunity gives diligent Engineers an opportunity to undertake and contribute to a wide variety of projects covering a diverse range of technical issues supporting an impressive spectrum of clients. You will be part of a growing team that is maintaining a leading position in its field and looking to strengthen its strategic consultancy work, as well as growing the current assurance and approval portfolio overseas.

Expectation

As an Engineer within the On-Track Plant / On-Track Machine team you will use your skills and expertise to support the introduction of complex “yellow” Machines and systems used to construct and maintain the UK’s railway infrastructure.

In addition to this you will have good communications skills, project management skills and have an eye for detail, which will often require that you witness testing both in the UK and overseas in order to assess compliance.

You will be responsible for running your own projects throughout the whole life-cycle (bidding, delivery and project planning activities) in order to deliver assurance services on time and within budget.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an Engineer who enjoys having a hands-on and practical approach to problem solving and who has a desire to understand novel and often unique engineering systems.

Ideally be working towards your Chartered Engineer status.  You will benefit from being part of a friendly and highly knowledgeable team of Professional Engineers who can peer review decisions and offer best practice and knowledge in all aspects of Railway Engineering.

Essential criteria are as follows:

  • Degree in relevant Engineering subject;
  • Actively working towards Chartership of a recognised Professional Engineering Body;
  • Some experience of practical application and understanding of standards;
  • Enjoys working with technical documentation;
  • Computer Literacy (e.g. MS Word, Excel etc).

Desirable

  • Knowledge of  “yellow” machinery or plant;
  • Knowledge of rail vehicle system design;
  • Some direct experience of working face to face with clients/customers.

Training

SNC-Lavalin will offer excellent training opportunities for the successful candidate and help mentor through to Chartership of a Professional Engineering Body

Atkins recognise that there are many well qualified people who are looking to further their career, but who cannot commit to full time employment. We support flexible working arrangements and are interested to discuss how we can accommodate individual requirements.

We are committed to having a diverse and inclusive workforce. As an Equal Opportunities Employer, we value applications from all backgrounds, cultures and ability.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.

If applying to this role please do not make reference to (in conversation) or include in your application or CV, details of any current or previously held security clearance.
