Geotechnical Engineer - OHTL (Saudi National)

Role:

As a Geotechnical Engineer specializing in Overhead Transmission Line (OHTL) projects, you will be responsible for reviewing, assessing and managing the geotechnical designs of OHTL infrastructure as submitted by contractors in coordination with customer, ensuring its safe and reliable operation. Your expertise will contribute to the successful planning, design, construction, and maintenance of OHTL projects.

Geotechnical Site Investigations: Perform review of Conduct geotechnical site investigations  data on soil properties, ground conditions, and other geological factors which will support  the design and construction of OHTL structures.

Foundation Design: Review and analyse the Design of  the foundations for transmission line towers and poles, considering factors such as soil bearing capacity, settlement, and stability.

Slope Stability Analysis: Perform slope stability analysis to assess the potential for landslides or soil erosion in areas where transmission line towers are installed.

Seismic Analysis: Evaluate the seismic vulnerability of OHTL infrastructure and develop seismic design criteria to ensure resilience in earthquake-prone regions.

Soil Improvement Techniques: Recommend and implement soil improvement techniques, such as ground improvement or foundation reinforcement, to enhance the stability of OHTL structures.

Instrumentation and Monitoring: Review of  geotechnical instrumentation data to track ground movement, settlement, and other critical parameters at transmission line sites.

Risk Assessment: Review and Identification of  geotechnical risks associated with OHTL projects and develop mitigation strategies to minimize these risks.

Collaboration: Work closely with structural engineers, electrical engineers, and project managers to integrate geotechnical considerations into the overall OHTL project design.

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all geotechnical aspects of OHTL projects comply with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulatory requirements.

Report Preparation: Prepare geotechnical reports, including findings, recommendations, and data analysis, to support project decision-making and regulatory approvals.

Cost Estimation: Assist in the development of cost estimates for geotechnical aspects of OHTL projects.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field. A master's degree may be preferred.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification.

  • Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles and practices.

  • Experience in geotechnical analysis and design for OHTL projects is highly desirable.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Effective communication skills for collaboration with cross-functional teams.

  • Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental considerations related to OHTL projects.

  • Knowledge and experience in practicing International standards (BS-EN standards, Euro codes (DIN), American codes ACI 318 & AISC 360, APL, ASHTO, ASCE, IBC, IEC 60826 and SEC (Saudi Electricity Co) standards.

  • Proficiency in Structural analysis using Standard computer softwares like STAAD, SAP2000, ETABS.
