Atkins Nuclear is currently seeking an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our team as a Piping Design Engineer in Oak Ridge, TN.

JOB SUMMARY

The piping design engineer will be responsible for providing engineering design for process piping and utility piping systems in support of nuclear and non-nuclear projects at Y-12.
The piping design engineer will be responsible for preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and man-hour estimates, as well as Title II engineering deliverables including preparation of calculations (equipment, valve and pipe sizing) and analyses, construction specifications & drawings, and equipment specifications and data sheets. Piping design engineer will design systems such as potable water and fire-protection supply systems, gases, acid and caustic fluids, brines, cryogenics, steam and condensate, hot and chilled water systems, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and vacuum systems. The piping design engineer will perform walkdowns in existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents. Assistance with field troubleshooting of equipment may also be required. All activities will be performed in accordance with the Company’s Conduct of Engineering Program.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Requires a BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited university plus a minimum 10 years experience in piping engineering design OR a minimum 20 years of progressive relevant experience as an engineering designer.
