Requirements:

Qualifications:
• Chartered Engineer
• BEng or MEng in Civil Engineering

Essential Criteria:
• A passion for safety leadership
• Previous experience of working on Transport Scotland Schemes
• Programme Management experience at a senior level with a successful track record of managing multiple project teams within major multi million pound projects.
• Experience in programme planning, able to set standards, provide guidance, and audit delivery of the standards
• Experience to pro-actively and confidently engage with our customers at all levels and in all circumstances.
• Knowledge and experience to handle contractual issues competently
• Ability to identify and respond to our client’s values in a competitive market sector.
• Proven ability to keep control in pressed situations, deliver work within set timeframes and create a well-motivated team.
• Well developed leadership, communication, negotiating, influencing and inter-personal skills, with the drive and commitment to achieve programme wide objectives
• A management level knowledge of and commitment to customer service, financial control, competitive tendering, engineering quality and health and safety matters
• Experience with Trunk road promotion and Scottish Government procedures for the preparation and publication of the relevant statutory road and compulsory purchase orders
• Experience in appearing as a witness on behalf of the promoter at Public Local Inquiries
• A collaborative approach to the delivery of projects
• Relevant commercial and contractual awareness
• A respected leader of people

Desirable Criteria:
• Prince 2 Practitioner or similar evidence of project management competency
• Experience of programme management on design and build projects
• Experience of monitoring construction contracts and of site management
• Understanding of Lean techniques and experience of their application
• Knowledge of project scheduling, including resourcing, using Primavera or Microsoft Project
• Experience of giving evidence at Public Inquiries
• Involvement in industry or professional activity

Responsibilities:
• Winning and successfully delivering one or more projects for our major clients, such as Transport Scotland
• Providing leadership on a significant programme of major multi-disciplinary infrastructure projects
• Client engagement at a regional and national level
• Maintain and further develop the existing teams to continue to deliver world class engineering projects on time and to budget
• Meet the clients business objectives and for them to feel confident in our ability to deliver
• Briefing and directing project teams to ensure the work is carried out cost effectively and to specification,
• Ensuring the ethos of safety is maintained and promoted throughout the regional business and show personal leadership
• Providing visible leadership on safety on the projects
• Managing senior stakeholders across the Atkins Group and externally
• Develop excellent professional relationships with clients in order to secure repeat business
• Presenting to clients and key stakeholders in a professional, responsive and client focused manner
• Client, programme, commercial and financial management of projects
• Mentoring and supporting the development of the team.
• Assisting with the delivery of Transportation’s business targets
• Identifying and helping secure business and project opportunities for the wider Atkins Group based on key client relationships.
• Contributing to the development and implementation of best practice across the project delivery community

• Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills both verbally and in writing
• A hard working and flexible individual, who is a team player, possesses great attention to detail, is reliable, proactive and shows initiative whilst able to keep cool under pressure and when working to often demanding deadlines.
• Ability to build and motivate a team and demonstrate good leadership qualities
• Self-motivated and able to work both independently as well as within a larger multi-discipline team in leading and managing packages of work to completion, within budget and to programme.
• A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team
• Customer focused with excellent relationship management skills
• Ability to communicate effectively at all levels
• A supportive and encouraging approach to mentoring less experienced members of the team
• Ability to adapt to different cultures and working environments to build rapport with clients
• Have a valid UK driving licence.
• Committed on ongoing professional and personal development
