SNC-Lavalin is seeking a career oriented Hydrogeologist with technical and project management capabilities and experience working in Western Canada. Ideally the candidate will be located in Calgary, however Edmonton, Saskatoon, Regina, and Winnipeg will be considered.
How will you contribute to the team?
As a Hydrogeologist, you will play a key role in developing and executing high quality technical work for a wide variety of both contaminant site assessment and physical hydrogeology projects. Site assessment work will include investigation, characterization, remediation, regulatory liaison, and contaminant transport modelling. Physical hydrogeology technical work may include aquifer evaluation, well design and testing, stratigraphic interpretation, environmental impact assessment, groundwater modelling, mine dewatering, tailings pond assessments, etc. You may work with various divisions of SNC-Lavalin developing work and managing clients internally and externally.
The Hydrogeologist will be required to oversee completion of fundamental tasks related to Environmental Site Assessments and Groundwater Resource Evaluations. Technical responsibilities will include report writing and review.
Plan, organize, and oversee multiple hydrogeology activities
Set and maintain project schedules, health and safety plans and program budgets
Make decisions with respect to overall technical execution of the project
Liaise with technical specialists, field personnel, or other project managers to ensure the technical integrity of the project
Assist in communicating and building relationships with clients
Providing management and technical expertise for contaminated site investigation and remediation programs.
Providing management and technical expertise for groundwater resource evaluation and management programs
Interpreting findings and preparation and/or review of technical reports
Supervising and mentorship of junior and intermediate professional staff involved in carrying out field programs, ensuring project requirements are communicated and health and safety protocols are adhered to
Promoting Health and Safety programs and culture
Participating in business development activities and maintaining client relationships
Preparing proposals and cost estimates
Working as a team with other regions as opportunities arise
What will you contribute?
Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Geology, Engineering, or Sciences with eligibility for professional designation (e.g., P.Eng., P.Geol.)
Registered or be eligible to register as a member of APEGA
Formal project management training will be considered an asset
Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience encompassing project coordination and/or management, staff training, and contractor supervision with emphasis in the areas of contaminated site investigation and remediation, and groundwater resource evaluation
Experience should include preparation and review of regulatory compliant Soil and Groundwater Monitoring Programs, Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs including design and execution of soil and groundwater investigation programs, interpretation of hydrogeological and geochemical data, monitoring studies, Phase III remedial plan design and implementation, report writing and review, and interpretation of provincial and federal environmental regulations. Experience with baseline hydrogeological assessments, groundwater resource exploration, water supply well design and testing, licensing, and ongoing monitoring is considered an asset
Candidates with experience working in multiple settings, both geographically and industrially (e.g., upstream, midstream, and downstream for the oil and gas sector, as well as others) are preferred
Ability to use standard hydrogeological software (e.g., AQTESOLV, AquaChem, BIOSCREEN etc.), and familiarity with using complex hydrogeological software (e.g., FEFLOW, geoSCOUT, etc.)
Proven experience in writing successful proposals, work plans and business development
Strong leadership abilities and effective mentoring skills
An ability and willingness to travel as needed
Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language
Solid organization and time management abilities
Good interpersonal skills combined with a positive, team-oriented attitude
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Valid Class 5 driver's license
Experience in human resources functions, such as hiring and performance evaluations
Site assessment and water resources evaluation
