PLEASE NOTE: THIS POSITION WILL BE LOCATED IN THE RALEIGH, NC TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT CENTER.


What a Traffic Operation Center (TOC) Operator does:
  • Manages traffic congestion, planned events and unplanned incidents in a Traffic Operations Center and provides data entry and QA/QC for information in the State DOT Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) or Advanced Traveler Information System (ATIS). 
  • Typically works under supervision but must be capable of directing his/her own work, implementing response plans as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and coordinating with personnel outside the facility.
  • Work generally involves relatively uncomplicated but varied tasks. 
  • Responsible for gathering and disseminating information in a courteous and pleasant manner to reflect the Department’s high standards and professionalism.


Education and Experience: 
  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Experience in a position involving public contact and telephone responsibilities preferred. 
  • Must be proficient with computer skills.
  • Occasional nights, weekends, holidays and emergency activations may be required. 

Special Skills:
  • Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills required. 
  • Must have good command of the English language.
  • Ability to perform in a professional courteous manner and remain friendly while under pressure. 
  • Must have an aptitude for geography and maps.
  • Must attend and pass Operator training provided for both TMC (Traffic Management Center) and NCTA (North Carolina Toll Authority).
