Role
Atkins is seeking a candidate to join our Safety Risk and Operations team. In this role you will be required to leverage your experience and knowledge to ensure sound risk-based decisions. There is a diverse range of projects to work on, with a focus on managing risk on highways. You will be leading the Safety Governance of operationally complex highways schemes and working across disciplines to manage the operational safety of the end state. This will require you to engage with the client, stakeholders and contractor to deliver safety objectives for the affected parties. To succeed you will need to be motivated, passionate and work collaboratively with others. 

The role involves leading and supporting IMST team projects for public sector organisations in a wide number of activities, providing ‘whole life’ consultancy across the breadth of a project. You will also work with specialists in rail systems, cyber security, human factors, and big data as well as across our highways focused Operational Safety technical network. Your experience will enable us to provide high quality consultancy as part of a project team that proactively manages safety risk. Candidates will also be required to prepare bids, act as project manager and be willing to lead appropriately sized tasks themselves. 

Please note that the salary banding for the role is competitive depending on experience.

Job Description
•    Writing Safety Cases and Safety Risk Assessments for complex projects and issues, demonstrating the achievement of safety objectives and safety risk criteria.
•    Prepares plans of sequence of operations and completion dates for each phase of production processing     
•    Oversees effective implementation of adopted processes, schedules and procedures
•    Analyses drawings, plans, specifications of safety, quality, accuracy, reliability and contractual requirements
•    Undertaking hazard identification, hazard analysis, and analysis and evaluation of safety risk using qualitative and quantitative data.
•    Leading the Safety Governance of major highways improvement projects as part of a larger ‘Operational Safety’ Team.
•    Chairing Safety Review Groups and Hazard Workshops; internal and external liaison with stakeholders with interest in safety outcomes.
•    Providing leadership in Safety.
•    Monitoring projects to ensure delivery to budget, time and quality.
•    Effective management of the delivery of work to standards and procedures (internal and client).
•    Contribution to the development of consultancy offerings and propositions; identification and development of bids; preparation of cost estimates and scopes.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
