Senior Aquatic Biologist (Environmental Permitting & Management)

We are seeking a Senior Aquatic Biologist to join our Environmental Permitting & Management (EP&M) Team.  This is a senior level role and can be based out of our Vancouver or Burnaby offices within the Lower Mainland, or our Victoria or Nanaimo offices on Vancouver Island.  Other office locations across BC could be considered as well.

Your role within the team:

  • You will develop and deliver technical studies for fish and aquatic habitat biology in support of environmental impact assessments (EIA) and other work programs in the marine and freshwater environment, including providing technical advice to clients and colleagues on legislation, regulation or policy related to fish or aquatic environments.
  • Provide technical leadership to the team through mentoring and guidance to support career development, ensuring our high technical quality and standards are upheld.
  • Design and implement field programs for the collection of baseline data, guide research, author key reports, as well as provide technical reviews.
  • Provide client and stakeholder engagement with government agencies, Indigenous communities and interest groups, through presentations, workshops and publications as this will be key to the success of your projects.
  • As a senior member of the team, you will also have the opportunity to contribute to the overall strategic development of EP&M, including technical excellence, growth, profitability and supporting our business development into new services, clients and geographies.
  • You will be someone with demonstrable consulting experience and knowledge of marine and freshwater ecosystems in British Columbia, working as a positive team contributor and leader, and be highly motivated and proactive, with a confident and professional manner as you . You utilize your ability to think independently, critically and strategically, with excellent written, analytical and presentational skills.

The ideal candidate has:

  • Master’s degree and a minimum of 10 years’ expertise in fisheries biology/ecology/management (or a Bachelor’s degree and 12 years’ relevant experience).
  •  Registered Professional Biologist designation (RPBio) or the ability to obtain the designation within 6-9 months upon being hired.
  • Demonstrated experience in obtaining permits/authorizations under the Fisheries Act, Canadian Environmental Protection Act (Disposal at Sea), Canadian Navigable Waters Act, Species at Risk Act and other environmental acts or regulations.
  • Experience in Environment Effects Monitoring studies.
  • Knowledge of marine and freshwater ecosystems in other Canadian geographies and/or the USA.
  • Experience in Impact Assessment methodology and Environmental Assessment process in BC and Canada.
  • Technical leadership experience on large-scale and complex projects affecting aquatic environments.

Compensation Range:

Expected annual compensation for this role is in the range of $90,000 - $150,000. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, location, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
