Senior Engineer - Belfast

Atkins works with water companies in the UK, Ireland and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes, we are currently seeking a Senior Engineer to join our established water team based in Belfast. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and supporting the delivery of a wide range of water infrastructure projects, locally, UK and Ireland and potentially overseas, involving the technical input into projects, use and development of digital solutions, data analysis, project management and liaison with other offices, clients and staff.

The Individual

The candidate will be looking to learn and develop their technical, management and business development skills and will typically have achieved a professional qualification through either ICE, CIWEM or EI.  They will be self-motivated and demonstrate an ability to work with others in a variety of project and business development roles, taking on an appropriate level of responsibility when required.  They will be knowledgeable about changes in the Water Industry and implications on design and performance criteria.

Essential Criteria

  • Experience of Civil Engineering Design and/or feasibility and delivery in the Water and/or Wastewater Sector
  • Knowledge of industry standards wrt distribution networks/drainage/wastewater networks.
  • Demonstrable Project Management skills wrt budget, programme and deliverable management
  • An interest and aptitude in business development/market growth
  • Competence in the use of Geographical Information Systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Proven track record in coordinating and delivering technically excellent projects.
  • Excellent team working skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proactive and motivated to develop technical knowledge and experience.
  • Keen interest and appreciation of the Water Industry.
  • A natural curiosity for developing innovative and cost-effective solutions for our clients.

Desirable Criteria

  • 10+ years’ water industry experience
  • Experience of the hydraulic/civil engineering design and assessment of sewer/drainage/distribution network systems.
  • Awareness of network modelling
  • Line Management and/or mentoring experience.
  • Project Management and business development experience.
  • Experience of developing proposals and undertaking bids
  • Digital product, technical development and sales promotion.
  • Full UK driving licence (clean)

Responsibilities

  • Management and coordination of resources for design and feasibility projects across the water sector for various clients
  • Lead the planning and delivery of feasibility/design projects for a variety of clients as part of a team as well as on individual assignments as required.
  • Bidding, developing scopes and pricing new work
  • Technical report writing and checking.
  • Lead Client/project Meetings and attend client sites/offices as required
  • Project and design management of schemes, delivering projects to time and to budget.
  • Prepare financial and technical proposals for project opportunities.
  • Proactive commitment to Health and Safety.
  • Supervision, management and technical development of junior members of the team.
  • Drive the development, adoption and embedding of digital processes
