Senior Engineer Consultant: Digital Railway Technologies , SNC-LAVALIN

SNC-Lavalin is looking to recruit a motivated individual to deliver consulting in the design and application of Digital Railway Technologies, in the SE Asia EDPM team, based in Kuala Lumpur. The target markets for the business are rail operators, projects and suppliers that are deploying (or are planning to) digital systems signalling systems such as radio systems, LTE, railway traffic management systems, timetabling and planning systems, driver advisory systems, asset management systems, passenger information dissemination systems.

The primary responsibilities for this role are to:

 

•Provide domain knowledge to the SE-Asia EDPM team and be a credible source of authority, guidance and expertise for internal and external customers

•Deliver high quality consultancy services to the satisfaction of clients. 

•Assist with generating new business for SNC-Lavalin EDPM

•Assist with supporting the growth of the RCS team

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (other duties may be assigned)

To deliver and maintain new business to SNC-Lavalin EDPM through preparing and delivering RCS related work packages, projects and improvement programs to South-East Asian rail companies and projects.

To drive through a customer-centric culture that has continuous improvement at its heart, recognising that it is the little things we do that can make a difference.

To ensure an energetic approach is taken to create business continually seeking fresh opportunities to solve issues by exploiting the advantage of knowledge and using best practice, bench marking, technology and innovation to improve consistency and quality of delivery and drive down costs.

BACKGROUND and QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The following requirements are representative of the experience, knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

•The development, specification, procurement and delivery of digital rail services such as secure radio systems, LTE, SCADA, railway traffic management systems, timetabling and planning systems, driver advisory systems, asset management systems, passenger information dissemination systems and other control room technologies

•Application of these technologies within the context of relevant rail modes, operations and maintenance.

•System integration, system assurance, system integrity (e.g. system security / availability) management experience with specific reference to Rail Control Systems, Rail Operational Control Centres and how they fit into a wider ‘whole rail system’ context.

•Some understanding of modern in-cab signalling systems (e.g. ETCS, CBTC or PTC derivatives), interfaces, engineering and standards is advantageous.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Chartered Engineer with a degree in a relevant discipline, or equivalent; or more than 15 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience:

•15 years plus experience of working in the rail industry

•5 years plus work experience in the South-East Asian markets

•Understanding of Malaysian rail standards and practices

•Sound command of the English language – able to read, write and communicate fluently

•Ability to read, write and communicate in a language additional to English is advantageous

INTERNAL INTERFACES

To work within the Australasian RCS team and with other areas of SNC-Lavalin EDPM team in Australia and other global regions to:

•Deliver the highest customer service to clients through your expert engineering, advice and support; and

•Contribute to SE Asia team’s marketing effort and to identifying new sales opportunities.

EXTERNAL INTERFACES

The development and management of relationships at relevant levels within the Client companies to support the successful delivery of services and the understanding and securing of future work is essential.

 

ROLE PARAMETERS

Identifying, bidding and delivering assignments to Clients.

Maintenance of reporting processes to ensure line manager is kept fully up to date with work progress.

Actively contribute to a continuous improvement culture.

Create, manage and maintain effective cross-functional, interdepartmental relationships to ensure the organisation delivers the most valuable service to customers.

Ensure that regular appraisals are held with line manager.

Comply with the Data Protection Act and adhere to SNC-Lavalin EDPM’s intellectual property and confidentiality regulations.

Always behave in a professional manner befitting SNC-Lavalin EDPM’s reputation.

Accountable for proactively identifying and resolving key safety risks in all relevant projects. 

Ensuring all safety accidents/incidents are reported in the correct laid out procedure and corrective action is taken where necessary.

Ensure the working environment is maintained in a safe and tidy condition.

Comply fully with SNC-Lavalin EDPM’s drugs and alcohol policy.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

SNC-Lavalin EDPM performs its business within open plan offices. 

Candidates may be required to visit operational railway sites/workshops/depots on occasion and must comply with local procedures and safety arrangements.  You may be required to work under local Safety Certification.

Candidates must comply with all aspects of the SNC-Lavalin EDPM Handbook and Employee Handbook as updated from time to time.
