Kent is looking for outstanding candidates to join our offshore structural analysis team based in central Edinburgh. We are looking for Senior candidates of all levels from Engineer to Principal Engineer. As a member of our team, you will be using advanced non-linear finite element assessment methods to assess existing offshore structures for the purposes of brownfield development, asset management, life extension and decommissioning. Within the offshore wind sector, you will have the opportunity to head the winning and delivery of our global portfolio of projects including concept and detailed design.

The Role:

In the role you will be responsible for heading teams of engineers to deliver the design and analysis for a variety of offshore structures in both the oil & gas and offshore wind industries. You will require a strong understanding of stress and structural analysis, and the ability to plan, develop, run, and report on complex analysis models using a range of analysis packages. You will also be responsible for guiding and mentoring junior engineers.

You will work on both the assessment of existing offshore assets and new design projects depending on the business requirements. This is a varied role and will include everything from hand calculations to linear and non-linear finite element analysis. The role includes working with others to identify and develop new technical methodologies as well as communicating and maintaining client relationships.

You will be able to manage your own cost and time targets to deliver an efficient, high calibre engineering service and be able to prepare the associated clear, concise, high quality reports. You will be working in a team of very experienced engineers to execute projects and will have the opportunity to develop your capabilities in line with the requirements of the Kent career paths.

The Person:

You will have a strong logical background and a desire to develop in the field of structural engineering and analysis. You enjoy new challenges and are keen to learn, whilst also wanting to support others within our diverse multi-disciplinary teams. You enjoy working on multiple fast-paced projects, balancing the need for high-quality design and evaluation with the need to deliver within required time and cost budgets.

Key Attributes:

Ideally Chartered (ICE, IMechE, IStructE etc), or actively working towards chartership.

Leadership and Communication -

  • Drive safe and efficient delivery of technically stimulating projects.
  • Cultural awareness and emotional intelligence needed to communicate effectively with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Can provide training and mentoring to junior engineers.
  • Ability to maintain existing and develop new client relationships.
  • Has a desire to innovate and enhance the efficiency of structural designs.

Design and Analytical Skills -

  • Experience of offshore structural design and analysis.
  • An understanding of the fundamentals of structural engineering and of relevant offshore structural codes and standards.
  • Linear and non-linear FEA experience in DNV SESAM, USFOS and ABAQUS or other comparable software package is preferred.
  • Technical understanding of environmental wave loading is preferred.

Delivery Background -

  • Proven success in helping to deliver structural projects against external and internal time, cost and quality objectives.
  • Building and maintaining client relationships, with a view to winning more work. Contributing to successful proposals and tenders.
  • Day to day operational support to client engineers including representing the company at meetings, production of deliverables and presentations.
  • Ability to report, interpret and communicate the engineering implications of complex analysis results to colleagues and clients, including the implications of problems encountered in the delivery of work.
  • Ability to support winning work from new and existing clients, through clear and professional communications.
  • Experience of applying appropriate quality assurance and reporting.

Additional Information:

We support flexible working arrangements and can discuss how we can accommodate particular requirements. This role can be considered on a part-time or full-time basis.

Travel to other company and client sites may occasionally be necessary as part of the role.
