Key Responsibilities:

The Senior Manager, Marine & Coastal Engineering is responsible for the overall management and coordination of marine and coastal engineering design covering the full requirements of all marine and coastal engineering projects, including reclamation, island formation, shoreline edge treatments and all marine works and relevant infrastructural interfaces. The role is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all marine and coastal engineering projects, ensuring that all plans and designs are completed in accordance with the company’s safety, operational, and environmental standards. This role will be responsible for several duties, including but not limited to:

  • Leading teams to designing, develop, and implement marine and coastal engineering projects;

  • Ensure efficient and timely delivery of coastal structures design & construction (quay walls, beaches, groynes, breakwaters, revetments, scour protection, dredging and reclamation, ground improvement, concrete armor protection, and marinas etc.);

  • Monitoring progress, managing schedule, and sequencing projects in a time & cost-efficient manner;

  • Reviewing and coordinating input on waterfront development master planning and marine infrastructure projects

  • Provide technical input for tendering and contract award for tall marine works;

  • Interface management with other projects & disciplines;

  • Supervise, coach and train project team members where needed;

  • Meet cost, productivity, accuracy, and timeliness targets;

  • Maintain metrics and analyze data to assess performance and implement improvements;

  • Monitoring and inspecting marine and coastal engineering projects to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulations; developing and maintaining relationships with local authorities;

  • Keep abreast of new developments in marine and coastal engineering technology;

  • Develop and implement procedures to ensure quality control and compliance with regulations;

  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors for the procurement of materials and services;

  • Monitor and review progress on marine and coastal engineering projects to ensure budget and program compliance;

  • Identify and recommend new technologies and processes to improve the efficiency and quality of marine and coastal engineering projects;

  • Providing technical advice to internal and external stakeholders, consultants, and contractors on marine and coastal engineering projects; and

  • Comply with regulations and ISO requirements.

Qualifications:

Suitable candidates must possess:

  • A Bachelors or Masters degree in marine engineering or related engineering field.

  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in marine and coastal engineering.

  • Proven experience in the design and construction of marine works construction, including but not limited to dredging & reclamation, beach nourishment, groynes, hard & soft edges reventment and quay wall construction.

Required Skills

The Senior Manager of Marine and Coastal Engineering should be able to demonstrate excellent organizational skills, as well as the ability to effectively manage multiple projects and coordinate with other departments and ensure that their team is working together efficiently.

The Senior Manager, Marine & Coastal Engineering should have a good understanding of the latest principles and technologies related to marine and coastal engineering and be able to identify and recommend new processes to improve the quality and efficiency of the company’s marine and coastal engineering projects.

They must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as they will be interacting with both internal and external stakeholders, consultants, contractors, and other departments on a regular basis. They should be able to explain complex engineering concepts to a non-technical audience and be comfortable making presentations to external audiences. Finally, they should be comfortable working with vendors and contractors and able to develop and implement strategies for the effective management of resources and personnel.

Key skills and competencies include, but are not limited to:

  • Proven working experience as a Marine & Coastal Engineering Lead;

  • Hands on experience in the planning and design of the various types of marine and coastal structures to international and local standards including Authorities and Stakeholder requirements within Emirate of Abu Dhabi;

  • Familiar with numerical modelling of coastal processes (wave transformation and penetration, hydrodynamics, and sediment transport);

  • Familiar with CFD and physical modelling;

  • Working knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as marine industry practices;

  • Demonstrable ability to lead & manage staff and external parties;

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills;

  • Preparing cost estimates and input to technical specifications for relevant projects; and

  • Monitoring and inspecting marine and coastal engineering projects to ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational regulations.
