Job Title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer – Nuclear & Power

Our Nuclear and Power division is a leading consultancy providing multi-disciplinary engineering support services to all project stages, from concept through to completion, to owners, operators, regulators, and suppliers to a diversified set of clients. Within the Nuclear sector, we’re involved across the whole life cycle of the civil nuclear industry, building the next generation of civil nuclear power stations and the first large scale prototype fusion reactor, meeting the challenge of keeping the current nuclear fleet operational and tackling complex decommissioning projects. With existing relationships with the major operators in the Nuclear and Power sector, we offer a hugely stimulating variety of work, within a team which is rapidly developing to support the delivery of new nuclear build, maintaining the existing nuclear and power generating assets and building net zero energy capabilities. To meet the increasing demand of our expertise in the nuclear industry we have now multiple opportunities for Senior Mechanical Design Engineers with experience ranging from 10 – 20 years in mechanical design and engineering to join the nuclear team at our AtkinsRéalis India offices. You will be working across our business, for different global regions in supporting mechanical design of plant systems. In particular, you will be required to support nuclear power plant design and refurbishment activities such as mechanical design of nuclear process systems, equipment selection and production of procurement specifications, mechanical design of static and/or rotary equipment, equipment and piping layout, etc. As we support our clients you may be expected to travel and work from client sites across the geographies we work in as the role, project or secondment requires.

Responsibilities:
The work is varied and may include some or all the responsibilities mentioned below:
- Mechanical design and development of process, mechanical and piping systems.
- Production of equipment specification and equipment selection.
- Piping layout and preparation of mechanical piping engineering designs for new installations and for replacement and upgrade of systems and components.
- Preparation of conceptual and detail design packages, including optioneering, design development, and concept evaluation.
- Design and implementation of engineering changes/system upgrades in brown field projects.
- Production of manufacturing packages, equipment selection (including material selection), coordination with manufacturer/contractor, review of vendor drawings/documents.
- Production of deliverables such as design definition and substantiation documents, detailed equipment specifications, component/material specifications.
- Piping and pressure vessel design (including valve/ fitting /material selection, specification of bellows and support specification).
- Production of technical specifications for equipment such as pumps, compressors, tanks, filters.
- Preparation of plant maintenance schedules, access and maintenance strategies, technical risk assessments, and commissioning strategies.
- Development of project technical proposals, scopes, schedules, and budget estimates for mechanical discipline work.
- Walk-downs to assess system configuration, evaluation of system/component degradation and material condition.
- Witness the pre-commissioning/commissioning activities by the contractor/vendor and produce/review all relevant documentation.
- Strategy development for in-service inspection and testing.
- Review of 2D and 3D CAD drawings/models and bill of materials.
- Plant refurbishment, operational improvement, and life extension studies.
Requirements:
Candidate should possess the following qualifications, skills and experience:
- Graduate or post-graduate in mechanical or other relevant engineering.
- Candidate should have 12 to 25 years of experience in Nuclear, Power, Oil & Gas or other highly regulated industrial environment preferred.
- Experience in design, selection, and specification of static and rotary mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, vessels, piping, etc.
- Experience in piping layout and piping design.
- Experience in handling brownfield packages, in particular power plant systems and utilities.
- Demonstrable knowledge of design projects, or relevant knowledge of process plant operations is desirable.
- Ability to carry out detailed design, analysis and review others work.
- Life extension studies and ageing management of systems and components.
- Experience in mechanical design and assessment in either greenfield or brownfield projects.
- Ability to understand and define client’s requirements, plan and schedule deliverables, timelines.
- Knowledge of fabrication drawings and processes.
- Knowledge of manufacturing non-conformance is preferable.
- Familiar with international design codes and standards (such as: ASME BPVC Section III, ASME B31.1, PSSR 2000, BS EN 13480 and BS EN13445) and recommended practices pertaining to mechanical design, fabrication, installation, inspection, testing, quality assurance and quality control etc.
- Strong delivery culture, maintaining strict timelines is must.
- Proven computer aptitude, and expertise in MS office.
- Experience of providing strong technical advice and guidance on mechanical engineering design to the client.
- Exposure to field installation, commissioning and testing of design changes.
- Experience in supporting construction and commissioning phases.
- Ability to work independently or as part of team, flexible attitude to the type of work and the level of responsibility accepted.
- Well-versed knowledge of Engineering, Quality and Manufacturing related to Nuclear, Oil and Gas, any Mechanical equipment-based industries.
- Experience in production of drawings for equipment layout.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical equipment problems and develop formal work package instructions for performance and documentation of repairs.
- Knowledge of CAD software like AutoCAD, Revit, Creo, Inventor, Solid works, Unigraphics, Catia V5, Plant 3D, E3D, PDMS
- Have excellent communication skills and motivated by working within a dynamic and diverse project delivery environment.
- Be willing to travel internationally and willing to work flexibly with occasional out of hours work to accommodate project and client requirements.
