JOB SUMMARY
Atkins have recently enjoyed several major projects wins including Cornwall Capacity Enhancement, Norwich Yarmouth Lowestoft resignalling and Shepperton resignalling projects, as well as a number of stand alone level crossing works.

Atkins are therefore seeking to recruit, experienced, enthusiastic, flexible and highly skilled signalling biased engineers into our Signalling Systems Practice to be a Senior Project Engineer or Engineering Managers.

Atkins has one of the UK Rail industry’s largest signalling engineering teams and as such you will be joining our Signalling Systems Practice which comprises a team of over 100 professional signalling design personnel, project engineers and engineering managers. This, together with Atkins broader cross discipline capability and our Global Design Centre, means our engineers have an unrivalled collective knowledge to tap into and learn from.

ROLE
This role is that of a technical leader within the Rail Signalling Practice principally focussed on the delivery of level crossings and smaller projects. The role reports to a Senior Engineering Manager and will need to spend time on site (across the UK), at client offices and well as visiting the UK design offices supporting the project.

Primary functions of the role include:
• Providing leadership to, and coordinating the efforts of engineering and delivery teams, to achieve safety, quality, schedule and cost objectives
• Acting as the focal point for technical issues/co-ordination between Atkins, Sub-contractors and the Client
• Actively engaging with the client and level crossing stakeholders,
• Addressing and resolving scope changes and understanding schedule and cost impact with the Project Manager
• Assisting with project closeout and hand over of deliverables to the Client
• Supporting the collective learning of the organisation


REQUIREMENTS
Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Significant signal engineering experience
• Level crossing experience
• Experience of undertaking one or more of CEM / CRE / DPE / PE responsibilities on Network Rail infrastructure
• Understanding of risk management, CDM and CSM

Desirable Qualifications and Experience
• Chartered Engineer
• Holds applicable IRSE Licence(s)
• Full Corporate Member of the IRSE
• Knowledge / experience of construction and testing processes.

LOCATION
Currently we have level crossings works in varous locations. In particular on the Norwich Yarmouth Lowestoft (NYL) project and in Kent. Depending on the individual and their home location the role will be based out York or allocated with the NYL project (Lowestoft or Stratford) or could be home based. Irrespective of the location a significant amount of time will be spent at project sites and offices across the UK.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
