SNC-Lavalin Atkins business seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Orlando, FL Eco Sciences Group as an Senior Scientist.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

Under direction, provides the expertise of a seasoned scientist to all conventional aspects of functional area and applies advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional problems. May function as individual researcher or technical specialist. Carries out complex or novel assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques and procedures.

JOB DUTIES
  • Work involves scientific evaluation and solution of considerably complex problems or scientific support to complex projects. Work also requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, precepts and practices.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • B.S./B.A. or M.S. in a field of Science to commensurate with hiring discipline; M.S. or graduate level coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Scientists with minimum seven years' experience since Bachelor's degree, or six years' experience with Master's degree; typical incumbent has eight to ten years' experience.

SPECIAL SKILLS
  • Proven analytical skills, technical writing, computer and communication skills. May be eligible for project management training.

PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS
  • Professional certification/registration may be required, depending on discipline.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

We are seeking a Senior Scientist II level individual for the Orlando Sciences program. The years’ experience and educational requirements can be whatever the general requirements are for Sr. Scientist level, however the successful candidate would need to able to drive a vehicle and need to have the following specific skills and knowledge.
  • Candidates for this position must have a very good understanding of the environmental regulatory process in Florida, as well as experience and familiarity with the permitting and compliance requirements of the jurisdictional agencies. Jurisdictional agencies include the primary authorizing local, state, and federal agencies, as well as consulting agencies.
  • The candidate must have experience, or a very good understanding with the NEPA process and agency requirements, as well being familiar with the content of EA, EIS and other related documents.
  • Candidates must be familiar with state and federal wetlands and surface water regulations, mitigation, sovereign submerged lands authorizations, and threated, endangered, and protected species regulations and agencies requirements.
  • Candidates need to be familiar and proficient with typical office software and programs, as well as design and GIS tools.
  • Candidates need to be experienced with managing the environmental permitting activities of large projects and be familiar with coordination between clients, designers and agency staff.
  • Candidates need to be effective communicators and be experienced in speaking with and conveying information between large and small project teams. Effective communication with a broad varied audience is essential.
