Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Atlanta, GA staff as a Senior Structures Engineer.


Major Function/Role:
  • The candidate will perform analysis, design and structural reviews on a variety of design and design-build projects involving bridges, walls, culverts and other miscellaneous highway structures.
  • Provides the expertise of a seasoned structural engineer to all conventional areas and applies advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional engineering problems with little to minimal direction. 
  • May function in project team leadership or task leadership role. Upholds engineering ethics and standards of conduct.

Job Duties:
  • Serves as structural discipline lead for a variety of highway and related type projects (city, county, DOT, toll agency, private)
  • Performs project design, sketching design concepts to be developed by junior engineers, CAD designers or technicians.
  • Plans and reviews the production of engineering investigations, drawings and specifications.
  • Develops and evaluates plans and criteria for new projects, weighing alternatives and selecting the most cost-effective solution.
  • Analyzes technical problems, assessing the feasibility of proposed techniques and procedures, and devising new approaches and alternative solutions.
  • Analyzes project dimension and scope, and prepares or oversees the preparation of cost and manpower estimates, schedules and job budgets.
  • Coordinates work with project manager, and guides junior professionals and technical personnel on the design and drafting of preliminary and final plans. 
  • Ensures that structural discipline teams are delivering to project related scope, budgets and schedules.
  • Is responsible for quality control, maintaining quality standards in all work produced, and checking computations or reviewing designs and drawings performed by others.
  • May occasionally manage projects. 


Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil engineering from a recognized Institute. Master of Science in Structures preferred.
  • 5 years minimum with structural steel.
  • Working Knowledge of software’s such as Microstation, AUTOCAD, Mathcad and structural analysis tools is required. 
  • Familiarity with design and plans production tools.
  • 5 years minimum experience with design-build delivery preferred.
  • Highly desired: 5 years’ experience with segmental bridges, and/or curved spliced concrete U-beam bridges 
Professional Registrations:
  • P.E. license required.
