Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Austin, TX team as a Senior Utility/SUE Coordinator.


Major Function/Role:
  • Under general supervision, applies strong technical skills of a highly experienced field representative, researching an interpreting contract requirements to determine whether construction work is proceeding in substantial compliance with plans, contracts, specifications and special provisions. 
  • NOTE: Incumbents do not supervise any contractors' activities and are not responsible for contractors' job site safety

Job Duties:
  • Performs work which involves diversified technical duties of a professional level, typically requiring specialized skills, experience and/or prolonged academic training, in support of assigned projects.
  • Review contract plans, specifications, shop drawings and regulatory manuals.
  • Observe and ensure compliance on construction work including trench excavation, pipe placement, trenchless utility installations and backfill operations.
  • May be required to use non destructive utility locating equipment such are radio detection and ground penetrating radar, assist in coordination and tracking of project submittals.


Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree plus continued education through workshops, seminars, and related courses plus four years of experience in engineering or related technical professional activities, exhibiting familiarity with related computer programs and applicable permitting work.

Special Skills:
  • Good technical writing, analytical ability and computer skills. Good oral communication skills and ability to organize information.
  • Math computation skills and understanding of contract plans and specifications.

Additional Requirements:
  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions, subject to insects, flooded terrain and equipment/traffic hazards - ability to walk long distances, climb ladders, stoop, squat and crawl down into ditches, ability to observe construction activities and distinguish colors; ability to perceive back-up alarms and other warnings.
