Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Phoenix, AZ, Water Resources Group as a Senior Water Resources Engineer.


MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

This is a great opportunity to lead a variety of water-related projects involving hydrologic and hydraulic (H&H) modeling and analysis, flood hazard identification/ quantification/ mitigation, regional watershed management, Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) studies, flood control master planning, and flood control facility design. This Sr. Water Resources Engineer will mentor junior staff and review engineering calculations, perform field observations, prepare design reports and exhibits, supervise in the planning, development, and production of engineering drawings, develop or perform quality control of 1D and 2D computer models for urban drainage analysis, floodplain mapping, watershed planning, and closed conduit and open channel design. This individual will apply full competency in water resources engineering work and broad knowledge of hydrologic/hydraulic analysis and design methods


JOB DUTIES

  • Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials or procedures, or difficult coordination requirements.
  • Performs quality control and guidance of junior staff related to hydrologic/hydraulic models or methods.
  • Prepares cost and man-hour estimates, job budgets and schedules.
  • Prepares or oversees the preparation of final plans and reports and submits them for approval.
  • Conducts or oversees personnel involved in engineering investigations and planning work.
  • Coordinates work with other engineers and professionals within and outside own discipline, and with support services.
  • Plans, schedules and conducts or coordinates construction services on projects of moderate scope.
  • Manages projects and coordinates with clients on all aspects of project execution (proposal, budget, scope, meetings, analysis, design, utility coordination, specifications, reports, etc.)


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • B.S. or M.S. in Engineering. M.S. or graduate level technical coursework preferred. This level may be achieved by Engineers with ten years experience since B.S. or nine years since M.S. Typical incumbent has 15 to 20 years of experience.


 
SPECIAL SKILLS

  • Strong technical writing and communications skills are expected at this level, proven through technical presentations, technical papers and/or participation in technical committees.
  • GIS experience associated with water resources and 2-D modeling experience is preferable along with familiarity with the following programs: HEC-1, HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS, FLO-2D, FlowMaster, WSPG, XPSWMM, AutoCAD, MicroStation.

 

 
PROFESSIONAL REGISTRATIONS

  • P.E. license is required.
