Sr. Lead Utility Coordinator

Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our New York City, NY Utilities Group as a Sr. Lead Utility Coordinator.



MAJOR FUNCTION/ROLE

 

This role will serve as Lead Utility Coordinator for Major Design Build Project transportation infrastructure projects from pursuit stage through delivery.  This position will report to the Design or Technical Manager and will be responsible for coordinating utility locations and relocations project wide using internal staff and/or subconsultants. Candidates will perform a variety of technical duties requiring professional-level technical knowledge with sufficient familiarity with transportation related work, such as design, permitting, production, reporting and documentation, to serve as the primary point of interface between utilities and other project technical disciplines.



JOB DUTIES

  • Coordination of utility adjustment process for transportation infrastructure projects including identification of existing utilities, identifying conflicts and assisting in identification of resolution.
  • Interpret plans & schedules to anticipate conflicts and resolution, review documents, utility records research, and coordinate/conduct meetings with contractors, affected parties, utility agencies and municipalities/owners.
  • Coordinates with other project technical disciplines as related to utility impacts. 
  • Participate in the preparation of sub-contracts, estimates of work (fee proposals), and scopes of work.
  • Coordinate and track project submittals, permitting and relocation efforts for multiple utilities project wide. Develops and maintains utility relocation data project wide. 
  • Lead a team of utility staff and/or subconsultants.
  • Conduct on-site visits and review plans to evaluate compliance with rules and regulations.
  • May oversee and coordinate the work of internal staff and subconsultants. Prepare and/or review Utility Agreement Assemblies, Joint Use Agreements and Record as-built drawings
  • May perform such other duties as the supervisor may from time to time deem necessary.




EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field, plus continued education through workshops, seminars, and related courses. 
  • 20 years of experience in transportation infrastructure projects, with at least 5 years on major Design-Build projects.  
  • Minimum of two large transportation infrastructure DB projects serving in similar utility coordination leadership role.
  • Specific knowledge and experience working in the utility industry within the metropolitan New York area; knowledge of major utility agencies critical.

 


SPECIAL SKILLS

 

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local utility regulations and codes applicable to transportation infrastructure.
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships within a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain quality and safety standards.
  • Understanding of scheduling and budgeting software; ability to apply to project activities. 
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, 3-D Modeling, MicroStation/Geopak and Clash Detection software desired.


ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

  • On-site field inspections will be required. 
  • Incumbent must have valid driver's license and a driving record that meets company policy.
