Atkins Nuclear is currently seeking a Sr Material Engineering Technology Engineer to join the nuclear team in Oak Ridge, TN.

JOB SUMMARY

  • Bechtel has an immediate opportunity for a Senior Material Engineering Technology (MET) Engineer with experience in welding processes used in structural, equipment and piping fabrication and construction and material selection, including determining erosion and corrosion impacts, in Department of Energy or commercial nuclear facilities or power, refinery, or chemical plant facilities.
  • You will be working as a Senior MET Engineer within the MET team supporting the engineering, procurement, and construction of the UPF process facilities. You will be assisting with welding issues identified during detailed design, equipment fabrication, and construction. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in using industry and national codes and standards as it relates to the development and review of welding and nondestructive examination (NDE) specifications and procedures. Additionally, the Senior MET Engineer will assist in assessing material capabilities against the expected process stream chemical and physical conditions to determine the required corrosion and erosion allowances. You will be interfacing and coordinating with other engineering disciplines, procurement, construction, sub-contractors, and the client.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • The Senior MET Engineer oversees the review of welding procedure specifications (WPS), procedure qualification records (PQR), and related vendor submittals for compliance with the project specifications and the applicable national codes and standards. The Senior MET Engineer will assist with coordinating with other engineering disciplines, procurement, supplier quality and construction in addressing welding issues, including NDE issues in a team environment. The Senior MET Engineer consults with system and equipment engineers, construction and operations in resolving open technical issues related to material selection and corrosion and erosion. The Senior MET Engineer develops and revises project welding related specifications. The Senior MET Engineer will assist in developing and revising project welding related specifications, dispositioning field change notices and non-conformance reports and reviewing vendor submittals.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • BS degree in Engineering or Science related field from an accredited university or college with 6 years of related experience; in lieu of education 12 years of relevant work experience is acceptable.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain site security badge for access to work site.
  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and a background check for DOE security clearance.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Extensive experience using industry and national codes and standards as it relates to developing and reviewing welding and NDE procedures
  • Working knowledge of ASME B&PV code, Section V and Section IX and AWS D.1 and D1.6 code requirements and standards
  • Working knowledge of welding related NDE Knowledge of material selection process as it relates to corrosion and erosion
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft Office products (i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • EIT license Knowledge of engineering/scientific systems, calculations, applications, construction methods and materials
  • Ability to develop and exercise management skills and experience as responsibilities increase
  • Specific experience working as a welding engineer or metallurgist on DOE or commercial nuclear facilities
  • Capable of obtaining a certified welding inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Practical work experience reviewing WPS/PQRs in accordance with various welding codes and non-destructive testing procedures and applications.
