The Environment division of SNC-Lavalin is a rapidly growing full-service consulting firm that is committed to technical excellence and exceptional service to our clients.  Our growing organization is seeking like-minded individuals to join our team. We have one of the most experienced environmental and geosciences engineering consulting teams in Canada and we are seeking a Supervisor to join our Site Assessment and Remediation Team in Trail, BC team. The successful candidate will bring well developed leadership skills to provide senior level technical direction and mentoring of staff, strong client management skills and the ability to collaborate with other Team Leads and Supervisors to contribute to management initiatives. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a team of over 7+ staff comprising technical and professional staff. They will support management in promoting collaboration within the Environment Practice and with other Technical Practices, Business Units, Proposal and Marketing and Project Delivery divisions to ensure effective resource sharing and workload/resource balancing. They will also play a key role in the management and execution of contaminated site assessment, remediation and reclamation projects in BC and specifically related to components of the Trail Area Health & Environment Program (see below).

ABOUT THE THEP:

The Trail Area Health & Environment Program (THEP) is a community program promoting health and the environment in the Trail, BC area (www.thep.ca). The Trail team provides education, primary prevention services and risk-based solutions to managing wide-spread metal contamination on public and private property. With the focus of preventing lead exposure to young children, they work with families, local residents, developers, and others offering a comprehensive program of services and supports.  With over 25 years’ experience, THEP has greatly improved air quality and reduced lead exposure in children. SNC has delivered services on this project since 2008 and has built a strong relationship with the client and community.  

How will you contribute to the team?

  • Supervising and mentoring a team of environmental professionals and technical staff to support execution of a site assessment and remediation project in Trail;
  • Project management and senior technical leadership through:
    • The development of local area studies;  
    • Having an understanding of risk assessment and the application of risk-based remediation;
    • Experience working on a collaborative team with industry, government and community; and,
    • Strong communication skills and experience presenting technical information to a varied audience.  
  • Having a good working knowledge and/or experience in the following would be an asset:
    • The Environmental Management Act and the Contaminated Sites Regulation in BC;
    • Hazardous materials assessment, specifically lead-based paint;
    • Technical writing and presentation skills; and
    • Data analysis, statistics, and statistical programs.
  • Provide leadership with a focus on collaboration and instill a culture of diversity, inclusion and equality;
  • Involved with recruitment and retention of staff to build a high performing team; including strategic hires, as appropriate based on workloads and Market requirements;
  • Maximize group utilization, while also ensuring a healthy work-life balance;
  • Understanding client objectives, technical protocols, guidelines and regulations that apply to the work/projects conducted and the rationale/developmental framework behind them;
  • Acting as a direct interface between clients and the SNC-Lavalin project team and/or regulatory bodies, as appropriate;
  • Senior level project management (including technical program development, management of personnel and resources, oversight of budgets and schedules for deliverables, implementing quality assurance reviews, and ensuring client objectives are met);
  • Ensuring proper implementation and continued use of quality assurance programs and corporate policies and procedures, including Ethics and Compliance; and,
  • Embracing behavior-based safety and ensuring all health and safety protocols are followed.

What will you contribute?

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Diploma in Engineering, Geology, Agrology, Biology or Environmental Sciences;
  • Minimum of 9 years of practical, progressive experience in environmental consulting;
  • 5 years of managing or supervising environmental staff;
  • Registered or eligible to be registered with a certified professional body;  
  • Must be located in or around Trail, BC or within the Lower Columbia region;
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate and mentor technical and professional staff at different levels of career development;
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities;
  • Self-motivated, with the ability to manage time and multiple deliverables accordingly;
  • Strong organizational and time management skills;
  • Commitment to excellence with a focus on quality control, quality management and attention to detail along with strong English proficiency is essential.
