The Technical Manager is a member of the Project Management Team (PMT) on the C3/4 Project, responsible for guiding a group of Process System engineers and designers. The Technical Manager oversees the execution of design and technical activities in a project delivery environment in accordance with industry standards and established governance. The Technical Manager will report functionally to the Director, Process and Civil Engineering, and daily to the project Technical Director.

This role will be based in Mississauga, ON.

Your role within the team:

  • Managing the design process from concept to preliminary to detailed design.
  • Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
  • Coordinating and oversight of Process Engineering activities related to the completion of fundamental design for a nuclear power plant.
  • Coordinating the design interface between the Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) and Balance of Plant (BOP) portions of a nuclear power plant.
  • Working with assigned staff to find optimal solutions to project challenges.
  • Providing technical guidance to staff, as appropriate.
  • Ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, and in accordance with the contract, applicable specifications, and technical requirements.
  • Interfacing with stakeholders, including Engineering peers, Procurement, Construction representatives, and prospective equipment and/or system vendors, to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and that the resulting designs are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
  • Ensuring department deliverables are produced in accordance with budget, schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
  • Approving engineering documents and deliverables.
  • Removing barriers that could impact quality, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
  • Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
  • Working with marketing and other business groups to maintain and improve client relationships and offerings.

The ideal candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited University.
  • Registered Professional Engineer in a Province of Ontario in good standing.
  • 10 years of process system evaluation and design.
  • 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience is an asset.
  • 5 or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
  • The Technical Manager will oversee the work of 10 to 20 Process System and Mechanical engineering staff.
  • Experience managing engineering work with significant interfacing requirements with other engineering teams including Licensing, Safety Analysis, Civil / Structural, and Electrical/I&C.
  • Experience working within a Quality Management System (CSA N286), and quality standards (CSA N299).
  • Experience managing and/or performing work under nuclear Codes and Standards such as CSA N285 & ASME Section III.
  • Experience in process system design and layout.
  • Experience performing heat balance and thermal hydraulic evaluations.
  • Knowledge of analytical tools used for mechanical and process design (e.g., ANSYS, Mathcad, Flomaster, NUCIRC, CATHENA or similar) is an asset.
  • Proven track record of performance in a multidiscipline, dynamic, project delivery environment.
  • Experience working in a nuclear facility licensed in Canada is an asset.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet business needs (Note: the initial site location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario).
  • Security Clearance with Public Services and Procurement Canada is a condition of employment.
  • The Technical Manager will oversee the work of 10 to 20 Instrumentation and Control engineering staff.
