SNC Lavalin (Previously Atkins) is one of the world's leading engineering companies. Its rail business is the largest in its field in Europe. With about 1700 specialists our Rail division provides high value engineering services predominantly to the UK market which includes signalling, telecommunications, electrification and plant, civil and rolling stock.

We are currently looking for an experienced Operational Telecoms TIC (Lead) to support projects throughout the UK.
Reporting to Telecoms Construction and Test Practice Manager

Requirements
• The applicant shall have experience as a Railway Telecoms Lead TIC.
• Experience of interpretation of tenders, design, specifying, costing and scheduling of GRIP 4 - GRIP 8 Telecom works on the Operational Railway.
• Responsible for the production of Testing Strategies, Plans and Specifications to Network Rail Standards,
• Management of site activities to ensure that safety and quality processes are maintained.
• Proven experience of managing a team of test engineers to deliver testing activities to stringent timescales
• Represent the testing team at Engineering, Construction and Commissioning meetings with other disciplines, the client and relevant third parties.
• Regularly liaise with Client to maintain satisfactory relations and clearly define responsibilities.

Qualifications
• BEng or NVQ L4 in relevant Engineering discipline.
• A competent level of presentation, communication and planning skills;
• IRSE Systems Tester Licence
• Sentinel COSS holder.

Essential Criteria
• At least 3 years experience of railway telecom testing working as a Telecoms Lead TIC on Network Rail operational communication projects.
• Extensive knowledge of operational railway telecoms systems including:
• -Transmission (SDH and PDH)
-Cable Networks (Fibre, Copper, Structured)
-PETS Systems
-Radio Systems (GSMR, CSR, NRN)
-Telephone Concentrators/PBX
• Experience in the testing of Ethernet Circuits to Y.1564 standards
• Knowledge of IP networks.
• Be able to interpret detail design drawings and schedules;
• Computer skills, excel, word;
• Requires exceptional skills in communication, problem solving, decision-making, and work load prioritization.
• Hold valid COSS, SWL1 (desirable) competencies


Desirable Criteria
• Experience of installation and testing of telecom FTN systems
• CCENT/CCNA – or at least a knowledge of.

Responsibilities
• Responsible for the co-ordination of all project related test requirements with the design, construction and project management teams to ensure correct and timely delivery of all project deliverables.
• Ensure test procedures meet required NR / Company standards.
• To manage progress for all testing activities and provide information as to actual and forecast resource consumption to Project Managers and Telecoms Practice Manager.
• Collation and notification of issues / problems to Project Manager and Practice Manager.
• Providing adequate support to the testing team at all times.
• Support the team in their knowledge base.
• Responsible to ensure all staff involved in test activities have the appropriate level of competence.
• Co-operate with quality, safety and environmental objectives and contribute, where appropriate, to SNC Transportation commitment for continual improvement.

• You must have experience of working within a busy team environment;
• Self motivation and ability to work alone, managing own work and setting sensible priorities according to customer requirements;
• Strong analytical and logical thinking capability;
• Possess excellent communicational skills;

Additional Information
The role requires flexibility of work hours (Shift work – Days, weekends & nights).
The role is within the SNC Lavalin Transportation Group Construction and Test.
40 hour basic working week.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
