Atkins seeks an energetic and highly motivated self-starter to join our Grand Rapids, MI staff as a Traffic Operator.
 
Major Function Role:
  • The candidate will be involved in managing traffic congestion, planned events and unplanned incidents in a Transportation Operations Center and providing data entry.
  • Typically works under supervision but must be capable of directing his/her own work, implementing response plans as outlined in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s) and coordinating with personnel outside the facility.
 
The Traffic Management Center is a 24/7 facility and Atkins is hiring a Part Time Operator. Candidates interested must have flexibility to work either morning or evening as well as weekend shifts.
 
JOB DUTIES:
  • Monitors traffic congestion using cameras and other tools.
  • Enter data to manage and track both planned and unplanned events.
  • Post appropriate traveler messages on signs as needed.
  • Alert travelers of traffic incidents.
  • Coordinate maintenance requests for traffic signals.
  • Receive and relay reports for roadway maintenance.
  • Coordinate with outside agencies as needed.

 



Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma (or equivalent); must complete 90-day TOC training.
  • Ability to use computer programs like Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Six months related experience in a dispatch center or comparable experience is preferred.
