Trainee Water Technician

Atkins, an SNC-Lavalin company, is one of the world’s most respected design, engineering and project management consultancies; we have the breadth and depth of expertise to respond to the most technically challenging and time-critical infrastructure projects. We work with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes, and due to growth in this sector we are currently seeking a Trainee Water Technician to join our established water team based in Peterborough.

Atkins Networks and Drainage Engineering team works with water companies in the UK and overseas, supporting their capital and operational projects and programmes. We provide innovative solutions for the analysis and rehabilitation of drainage systems to prevent flooding / pollution and water distribution systems to ensure a reliable supply. Our staff are typically engineers or geographers and provide technically complex and innovative solutions to deliver benefits and optimise solutions.
Whilst technical experience is not necessarily required, the applicant should be confident, literate and numerate with an interest in Geographical Information Systems. Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel is essential. Knowledge of Infoworks or MapInfo computer packages, would be beneficial


Responsibilities
• Support the team in project administration.
• Site inspections and data collection.
• Data analysis and presentation in Excel.
• Contribute to problem-solving within the project team.
• Updating Geographical Information Systems.
• Maintain good client, supplier and in-house relationships.

Requirements
• 5 GCSE Grade C or above passes (or equivalent) including English, Maths and Science (Geography an advantage)
• A Level and /or other further education qualifications an advantage
• A proactive and conscientious approach to work
• A keen eye for detail and a desire to learn
• Experience of working in a team environment
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and be able to understand and follow instructions
• An ability to be creative and to innovate new solutions
• A willingness to learn from project experiences and to adopt Atkins' systems and processes
• Experience of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Full clean driving licence

Desirable Criteria
• Evidence of successfully undertaking and completing work experience (voluntary/employed)
• A knowledge and understanding of the built environment and the water cycle
• An interest in Geographical Information Systems and computer modelling.
• Knowledge of Infoworks, ArcGIS or MapInfo computer packages.

Training
Training is tailored to the needs of the individual and is both on and off the job, allowing for real responsibility at work whilst meeting the needs of personal development. Mentors provide a source of advice and guidance that is both informed and informal.

Atkins develops individuals through a portfolio of training and development activities designed to help make the best of an individual’s abilities and talents. These are reviewed through an annual appraisal process. We actively support staff in achieving corporate membership of relevant institutions.

This role may require security clearance and offers of employment will be dependent on obtaining the relevant level of clearance. If this is necessary it will be discussed with you at interview.
