Atkins seeks an energetic, highly motivated, detail-oriented, self-starter to join our Denver, CO team as a Transportation NEPA Project Manager.


Major Function/Role:

Atkins is currently seeking a senior level NEPA Planner/Project Manager to join our busy NEPA Transportation group in our Denver, Colorado office.
The ideal candidate for this position will apply their NEPA expertise and state and federal regulatory knowledge towards the assessment of transportation and other infrastructure projects, along with preparation of environmental documents (Categorical Exclusions, Environmental Assessments/FONSIs and Environmental Impact Statements).
We are looking for a seasoned planner with experience in applying advanced concepts and techniques to unconventional problems.
Work may involve land utilization, urban planning, transportation and environmental projects.


Job Duties:

Carries out standard, complex, or novel assignments requiring diversified knowledge of planning principles and practices in broad areas of assignments.

Typical duties and responsibilities of this position will include:
Evaluation of impacts from transportation and planning projects on the built, cultural and natural environment;
  • Coordination with design professionals and overall project team to identify opportunities for avoiding and minimizing potential impacts;
  • Perform field investigations of projects including land use and community resources;
  • Gather and analyze data related to indirect and cumulative impacts, environmental justice and community impacts;
  • Public involvement and outreach activities;
  • Preparing NEPA documentation for a variety of projects;
  • Internal and external project management duties commiserate with job complexity.


Education & Experience:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning or related field. Master's or graduate level technical coursework preferred.
This level may be achieved by Planners with seven years’ experience since Bachelor's or six years since Master's.
Typical incumbent has 8-10 years' experience.


Special Skills:

The appropriately qualified candidate for this position will have the following core competencies and required experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Engineering, or a related field;
  • Prior project management experience;
  • Aptitude for maintaining a professional attitude and attention to detail while working alone and within a team environment;
  • Excellent technical writing and verbal communication skills with clients and colleagues;
  • Strong organizational, task and time management, deductive reasoning, and analytical skills;
  • Proficiency with the MS Office suite of software.
Excellent candidate for this position will have the following core competencies and required experience:
  • 10-15 years’ experience working with transportation clients; 
  • Working knowledge of air quality modeling, noise modeling, traffic modeling, or GIS; and have previously supervised staff.

Professional Registrations:

AICP Certification or PE license beneficial, but not required.
