Learn more about James’ career and favorite quote.

Q: Tell us a little bit about your professional background?

A: During my tenure at Atkins I have worked in the Transportation/Highways as well as the Water Infrastructure groups. I continue to push for well-rounded professional technical experiences in the planning and design realms of civil engineering. This ambition to continuously diversify my technical skills is always welcomed with open arms by supervisors and leadership. It is my opinion that well-rounded professional and technical personnel can effectively contribute to the success of a myriad of projects as much as specialized personnel. I have found that no matter what type of design project is underway, technical skills from other disciplines are always required in order to effectively deliver work.

Q: What do you think has had the biggest impact on your career development to date?

A: Mentorship. Here at Atkins, I have been the understudy of numerous top-notch individuals working in the civil engineering profession. Working directly with these individuals has exponentially accelerated my growth in a variety of technical disciplines.

Q: What is your favorite quote and why?

A: “Because of 4 a.m.” – Kobe Bryant.  It is my opinion that in order to accel in any field or craft you must be willing to go the extra mile, must be willing to work harder than others, at times when others would prefer to engage in leisure.

Q: Tell us one fun fact about yourself.

A: My favorite activity and/or past time is to be on the lake/river, fishing.
