Atkins Building Design Practice are looking for an experienced, motivated Associate BEMS Engineer looking to develop their career in a positive environment and join our team where talent is encouraged and growth opportunities unrivalled. This role will be based in Epsom, Surrey, but presents the opportunity to join a national delivery team and work with designers all across the UK and internationally through our Global Design Centre.

This opportunity will involve working as part of a national practice of Building Design professionals delivering engineering design solutions to clients across the UK. The Building Design practice work on projects across all of our focus markets, including Aviation, Cities & Development, Education, Energy and Transportation.

The opportunity will require candidates to be client-facing as well as being involved in the day to day design and management of projects. It is an exciting opportunity for an experienced BEMS engineer to further develop their career within a leading building design consultancy.

The Associate BEMS engineer role will enhance Atkin’s already established BEMS team, providing expert advice on appropriate control strategies for Building Services Systems and the application of Building Energy Management Systems. You will play a key role in developing and enhancing our in-house technical standards, details and specifications relating to building control systems.

Responsibilities:
• Design and application of all Mechanical Building Services BEMS control systems across the full spectrum of building services
• Preparing functional design specifications and points schedules
• Work closely with our MEP teams
• Work in partnership with Atkins global design center (GDC) to add value to building services projects where appropriate.
• Preparing BEMS drawings for drafting by the CAD team
• Prepare design information and tender documentation including:
o BEMS network schematics
o BEMS plant schematics including field device locations
o BEMS points lists and schedules
o BEMS sequence of operation descriptions for performance and functional design specifications
o BEMS materials and workmanship specifications
• Representing Atkins at meetings with clients and contractors
• Site surveys, inspections and monitor site works
• Carry out on-site inspections of BEMS installations and witnessing of BEMS control functionality
• Report writing
• Provide advice on appropriate control strategies for building services systems and application of the latest Building Energy Management technologies
• Maintaining records and archives to company standards
• Develop in-house technical standards, details and specifications
• Informal mentoring of less experienced team members as required
• Manage own workload

Requirements:
• Degree qualified, or equivalent qualification, in Building Services Engineering or related subjects
• Chartered Engineer or working towards Chartership with CIBSE/IET
• A background in the BEMS controls industry gained within either a consultancy or contracting organisation
• A strong background in the design, application and commissioning of BEMS control systems
• Site experience and familiarity with the installation and testing requirements of BEMS control systems and associated control devices including communication networks, communication protocols, field wiring and field devices
• Practical experience of control system commissioning, tuning and trouble shooting
• A strong background in the operation, functionality and interrogation of BEMS supervisor servers and workstations, including graphics page management, dynamic graphics, alarm management and recorded data analysis
• A strong background in management level, device level and field level communications networks
• Able to take charge of project deliverables, make decisions, act on own initiative and operate in a pro-active way
• Good report writing skills, experience of making presentations to and attending meetings with clients is essential
• Prepared to travel throughout the UK for site visits and working at other Atkins office locations.
