Provide a high level of customer service to all passengers including high visibility and approachability while maintaining AtkinsRéalis’ values, including the company’s commitment to safety, and operational excellence. Ensure the safety of the public, while demonstrating a commitment to company policies and procedures, including the Canada Line Rail Operating Rules. Assist with trouble shooting and fault mitigation on trains to meet required performance targets. Safely operate trains in manual mode while complying with procedures and Canada Line Rail Operating Rules. Respond and participate in emergency response according to AtkinsRéalis’ policies and procedures. Provide fare media, way finding and tourist information to the public as required. Participate in initial training; Canada Line Rail Operating Rules certification and all other company sponsored training both internal and/or external.

This role will be based in Richmond, BC.

Your role within the Team:

  • Provide excellence in customer service to all passengers including passengers with special needs. Enhance safety by continuously monitoring passengers and train operations while upholding AtkinsRéalis’ Code of Ethics and operational standards.
  • Communicate with other members of Field Staff as well as the Control Centre via two-way radio. Continuously monitor designated station and/or area and report safety and security needs effectively.
  • Monitor passenger volume and identify safety concerns, implement crowd management during emergencies, provide critical information via public address system, and perform first aid.
  • Assist with trouble shooting and fault mitigation on trains and other equipment to meet required performance targets.
  • Operate trains in manual mode while complying with procedures and Canada Line Rail Operating Rules.
  • Participate in high visibility passenger safety and passenger information initiatives. Distribute maps and tourism literature as required.
  • Participate in station opening and closing. Inspect stations and trains for vandalism and ensure train and station cleanliness.
  • Access the Automatic Train Control (ATC) area (guideway) to retrieve items or to assist with system disruptions as required.
  • Retrieve and respond to lost property and assist when parties have been separated i.e., parents/children.
  • Operate company motor vehicles when required.
  • Remain compliant with all safety, technical, customer service training, and Canada Line Rail Operating Rules always.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Expected compensation for this unionized role is of $31.16 hourly at Training Rate and $36.67 hourly at Qualified Rate after training. Base salaries are determined according to the compensation range of the Collective Agreement.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of direct, high volume customer service with diverse clientele is required.
  • Experience in public transportation is considered an asset.
  • Valid BC class 5 driver’s license is required.
  • Strong Interpersonal skills are required.
  • Adaptability/Decisiveness skills are required.
  • Experience with marginalized and or culturally diverse population including those with substance, mental health, addiction and/or the homeless is required.
  • Experience using two-way radio is considered an asset.
  • Ability to work 7 days per week including weekends and holidays on a 24-hour shift basis is required.
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment; stand for long periods of time, including working outdoors in all types of weather is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in both oral and written form, including giving (speaking and writing) and receiving (listening and reading) information, in a way that ensures messages are understood.
  • Ability to work effectively with different people and teams of people, including co-workers, public, and staff from other agencies, by putting others at ease, acknowledging diverse opinions, addressing relevant concerns, minimizing conflict, promoting harmony, cooperating with others, and working toward acceptable solutions.
  • Ability and confidence to vary between being flexible and holding firm on a decision, depending on what the situation requires, showing leadership by adjusting one’s approach to the demands of a particular task or by taking and maintaining a position in a self-assured manner.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, maintaining effectiveness and self-control during any one or combination of stressors, including emotional strain, ambiguity, risk to self, and fatigue.
  • Ability to recognize and report potential conflict situations and disengage when required.
  • Attention to detail and ability to relay details in concise fashion, including those of a technical nature.
  • Ability to learn and implement operating rules and procedures for normal and emergency operations.
  • Ability work safely and to remain calm in emergency situations.
  • Ability to obtain First Aid Level 1 (training provided).
  • Although remotely connected to a work team, can work independently at stations.
  • Comfortable working in an underground area for an entire shift.
  • Formal education or training in hospitality is considered an asset.
  • Demonstrated technical and mechanical aptitude is considered an asset.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
