Civil Engineer Apprenticeship

We are offering a limited number of Civil Engineering Apprenticeships commencing in September 2024. Civil Engineering Apprenticeships will be available in our Dublin, Cork, Galway and Dundalk offices.

Successful applicants will join a dynamic and ambitious company offering excellent training, development, mentorship, and hands-on experience to successfully complete their apprenticeship in a friendly and supportive environment.

Apprenticeship Duration:

This is a 3-year Civil Engineer Apprenticeship programme. Your will achieve a Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering (NQF Level 7)

How you will learn:

The Civil Engineering Apprenticeship is run in conjunction with SOLAS and ATU Sligo.

Apprentices attend:

  • An on-campus week at ATU Sligo at the commencement of the course.
  • An on-campus day monthly for labs and workshops.
  • Online lectures one day each week.

Work Based Learning:

Apprentices spend the remaining days working with our teams and learning ‘on the job’ to get hands-on experience of the modules they are studying. Apprentices will have a dedicated mentor to support their work-based learning.

On the job learning will include:

  • Supporting senior engineers in the design and delivery of projects for both public and private Clients.
  • Assisting senior engineers to ensure effective project delivery.
  • Undertaking site visits / surveys (under supervision) as required.
  • Preparation of designs to develop skills using modelling software.
  • Preparation of drawings and reports.
  • Adherence to all relevant health & safety legislation.

Key Experience & Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and positive outlook.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills (in English).
  • Initiative, a flexible approach, and ability to multi-task and prioritise.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving ability.
  • Ability to work effectively with the Microsoft suite of programmes.
  • Capability to learn to use design programmes used by engineering professionals.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to comply with Quality Assurance Management Systems.

Minimum Entry Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Have a QQI Level 5 (or equivalent) i.e., Leaving Certificate.
  • Have a Pass Grade in Maths at Level 5 (or Equivalent). i.e., at Leaving Certificate Level.

Non-Standard Entry:

In the case where an applicant does not meet the educational requirements specified above, acceptance on a case-by-case basis will be based on an interview process to determine previous experiential learning, the student’s suitability to the subject area and their commitment to achieving the minimum intended programme learning outcomes.
