The Design Management Director is responsible for the design integration, design schedule and ‘design to budget’ of his or her design packages, including the interface between different designers and engineering stages. Each individual design package comprises vital components of the new City and the Design Management Director is entirely responsible for all aspects of the planning, delivery and integration of packages. The Design Management Director will be part of The LINE Projects, Senior Management Team, comprising leaders in Planning, Design, Engineering, Project Controls, Commercial, Construction Excellence, Industrial Delivery and will be expected to collaborate across these delivery functions and with stakeholders.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Overall accountability for the delivery of design from Stage 3 design to assurance and handover.
  • Leadership of a team of senior professionals and their support staff, to deliver a demanding schedule.
  • Management of design, to budget.
  • Management of tier1, design consultants, to achieve overall The LINE Projects objectives.
  • Delivery of design for Phase 1 Modules, with the emphasis on collaborative delivery and quality.
  • Review the project design in-depth to schedule deliverables and estimate costs.
  • Analyze, manage and mitigate risks.
  • Able to process schedule requirements, analyze multi-layered schedules and react to change. Able to be able to concisely report on progress and challenges.
  • The ability to balance the stakeholder expectations and perceptions against the needs of the Project.
  • Gathering and synthesizing information, identifying options, and applying sound judgement based on logic and reason, making use of a variety of analytical approaches to provide relevant information to suppliers, stakeholders and decision makers using key facts and data.
  • Oversee the construction, identify deviances and act to ensure programme targets are met.
  • Oversee the quality of design and act where necessary to ensure the required quality is delivered.
  • Lead a robust change control process, while adopting a collaborative work ethic.

Qualifications

  • BS degree or MS degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field.
  • Preferably Chartered Engineer status and/or Project Management accreditation.
  • 20 years of experience in design or construction management.
  • Advanced knowledge of design management processes, means and methods.
  • Strong experience in organization co-ordination.
  • Integration and package management (through supply chains).
  • Complex stakeholder and interface management experience.
