The Electrical Instrumentation and Controls Technical Manager is a member of the Project Management Team (PMT) on the Project, responsible for leading a group of electrical and Instrument engineers and designers for the Pickering RFBR project.  The Technical Manager oversees the execution of design and technical activities in a project delivery environment in accordance with industry standards and established governance. The Technical Manager will report functionally and daily to the project Technical Director.

Location – Mississauga, ON

Your role within the team:

• Managing the design process from concept to preliminary to detailed design.
• Planning and executing work consistent with quality, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Coordinating and oversight of process engineering activities related to the completion of fundamental design for a nuclear power plant.
• Coordinating the design interface between the Nuclear Steam Plant (NSP) and Balance of Plant (BOP) portions of a nuclear power plant.
• Ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with applicable Engineering and Quality Assurance procedures, and in accordance with the contract, applicable specifications, and technical requirements.
• Interfacing with stakeholders, including Engineering peers, Procurement, Construction representatives, and prospective equipment and/or system vendors, to ensure system designs meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements, and that the resulting designs are constructable, operable, and maintainable.
• Ensuring department deliverables are produced in accordance with budget, schedule, quality, and technical requirements.
• Approving engineering documents and deliverables.
• Removing barriers that could impact quality, cost, and schedule performance.
• Participating in the preparation of commercial proposals and approving the technical content of proposals prepared under their direction.
• Forecasting resource demands for the assigned work scope, including required skills, capabilities, and durations.
• Develop and Implement Project Plans:

Determine timelines, budgets, and resource allocation to meet the RFBR technical scopes for the discipline needs of the project.

• Oversee Design Process: 

Ensure projects meet required standards and objectives, including the application of both CANDU QA and OPG Engineering Change Control and the OPG Contractor Owner Interface Requirements Document.

• Team Collaboration:

Provide guidance and feedback to design teams.

• Capacity Planning: 

Ensure the organization has the necessary resources to handle upcoming projects.

• Workload Management: 

Monitor and manage employees’ workloads to prevent burnout and ensure optimal productivity.

• Conflict Resolution: 

Address and resolve any resource conflicts that arise.

• Hiring and Training: 

Assist with hiring decisions and development of new team members in the work.

• Risk Management: 

Identify and manage project risks, implementing solutions as needed.

• Defines the structure of the electrical and instrumentation team, including reporting relationships.
• Maintains a capability profile of the team, including individual experience and skills, Identifies gaps in the size or technical capabilities of the team relative to forecast requirements and develops and executes a plan to close those gaps through a combination of hiring, releasing, and developing staff.

 The ideal candidate:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, or a related field from an accredited University.
• Registered Professional Engineer in a Province of Ontario in good standing.
• 10 years of process system analysis and design.
• 5 years nuclear and/or CANDU technology experience is an asset.
• 5 or more years of experience leading engineering teams.
• Security Clearance (from Candu Energy and OPG) must be obtained and maintained as a condition of employment.
• Willing to travel to and potentially work at Project sites to meet business needs (Note: the initial site location is at the Mississauga head office in Ontario)
